1991 Escort cranks butwon't start..help!!daglow 03-24-2004, 12:14 AM This 1.8 GT cranks but will not start--new battery, distributer, plugs, cables, timing belt, air filter, water pump. The mechanic said it blew his diagnostic computer. He believes the brain got wet years ago (b4 I owned it) they check the brain and it was dry with no sign of damage. Oh and gas is coming out of the tail pipe. ANY ONE got any ideas, because the mechanic is speechless. Anything. anything at all. amature 04-01-2004, 10:39 AM Sometimes what will happen with any car that won't start is washing the walls of the cylinders down with gasoline. This will reduce your oil pressure and would prevent it from starting. What I would suggest is to pull your plugs out and put a teaspoon and a half of oil in each cylinder. This will re-coat your walls and bring up the oil pressure again and you might get it to fire. After you do this you may have to pull your plugs and clean them. Perhaps try this once or twice if it doesn't start immediately. You can also pull a plug, put it into your plug wire and place the electrode on a ground of the car, say the valve cover and crank the engine once or twice. Watch that you don't get shocked. If you are not getting a spark you may have to replace the distributer again. Good luck, let me know if it works. daglow 04-01-2004, 01:12 PM The starter relay was bad, we changed that and the 2nd part was to do what you said about the plugs we changed them and put the oil in the cly. and the the car started! YES! YES! I drove it for 30 min. until the gas was no longer coming out of the tail pipe. IT Worked!!! Thanx vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
