This tamiya kit is really nice, fun to build and very well detailed. a huge improvement on the older models.

I built #22 as a test to see how the parts could be made to fit a slot car chassis and what kind of mods would be needed to make the most of the original kit keeping in mind the fact that the car must be light in order to peform on the track and that in order to also look good, as many parts as possible of the kit needed to be used or scratch built out of a lighter material..

I will later (try to) build the #23 and the calsonic a lot better, will also inclued the PE parts (studio27) which are not yet on and a driver (tamiya) will also be placed in the car (.... any helmet pics??)

My rear wheel wells and the parcel shelf are scratch built to save weight and parts of the slot car chassis are scratch built out of real carbon fiber .

At 172g, the finished car is quite light compared to cars that have a lot less detail. The modena i built weighed 30 gramms more...

I checked out this site for reference pictures :

well, its not the fastest - :headshake yet, needs a bit of fine tuning
but it was fun to build and now I more or less know how the #23 ( Xanavi will be put together and what improvements need to be made.

That is really cool. Are most slot cars in 1/24 scale?

That is some awsome work. I would be concerned about crashing and destroying all that work. I would propably only do parade laps with that car. I would love to see more of your conversions.

thanks for the feedback guys.
Driving such cars on the track is a bit scary but they are quite solidly hbuilt and can withstand quite a bit of the hard treatment they get.
1/24 is one of the scales frequently used in slot racing, 1/32 is also used a lot. 1/24 is cool because one has so much more detail, the cars are so realistic and ....... you guys all build them... you know what I mean!

The "Kill Bill " supra was just a joke, but it turne dout better than expected.

The most commrcial scale is 1/32, 1/24 is for the big boys, the cars are a lot more detailed and intense. The best part is that most 1/24 cars have to be hand made and that one can really create.

Man, Fola you're in a different world from slot car racing here in its birthplace.

That's right, the slot car racing capital of the world is right here in Northeast Ohio. After all, we're home to Parma/PSE International. The world's largest producer of slot car racing goods.

Most racing 1:24th scale cars are 1:24th scale in name only. It's a 4" wheelbase chassis class, in all honesty, and the bodies are vacu-formed lexan.

http://www.shiftersraceway.com/images/AudiGTP-640.jpg

This is a more typical racing slot car in the GTP category. This body passes for an Audi R8.

A very popular class at my home track/shop of Shifter's Raceway is the hardbody stock car class that races on their tri-oval. It uses model car bodies and a very simple brass sheet chassis with a longer wheelbase. The cars aren't very fast and don't handle for crap, but are fun as hell when a full heat of eight cars is racing at once. Here's one of them that uses an AMT 1964 Ford Galaxie body.

http://www.shiftersraceway.com/images/HardBody2-640.jpg

My own car for the class uses an AMT/Ertl Bobby Allison AMC Matador body. I'll try and get some pictures of it sooner or later. But for fun, here's some pics of the two tracks at Shifter's.

It's a fun hobby indeed. I tell you one thing, fola, I gotta find out what company you're getting those tires and chassis from. Nothing like that in the Champion or Yeti catalog.

Hi,.... keeper of Layla,

Nice pics!
nice tracks!
nice Race club.
Here in Germany its all a bit smaller..... but the technology is very good.
We race (They... I just build mainly for fun...) also on wood tacks but mainly Hard body cars. There are also those who race 1/32 cars on plastic tracks but 1/24 is a lot more fun due to the amount of detail involved. Your cars must be super fast.... our cars are made to drive well and to LOOK GOOD!! Realism is a very important elemant that just inproves the fun factor.

here are a couple of pics, you can see what an Audi R8 really lloks like!!

The chassis pictured is from WWW.MOTORMODERN.DE
you can get them in the USA too, - also check WWW.WERKSHOMPAGE.DE they have a cool site with lots of pics and detailed build ups. They also have a small shop....my chassis is scratch built... it is actually a Carbon fiber copy of the Momo chassis which comes from Germany. My chassis is just a lot lighter. Also popular is the Plafit Ecxel chassis and stuff from that brand generally. In fact we have a German Plafit championship too.

Anyway Slotracing is a whole load of fun whereever it is practised!!
