1997 Chevy blazer with MANY problems, strangest is that while turning, braking, accelerating, any movement i hear a sound like water gushing around. the sound seems to be coming from under the middle glove box (between the driver and passenger seats). i have seen on these forums of the heater core causing this. all of problems mention a coolant smell in the car, which i don’t have. there is, however, a coolant smell outside the car, never inside. it also stalls and restarts on its own and doesn’t always turn over on the first try, i have seen a lot of ideas on this which i will try, don’t know if the 2 problems are related. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

More than likely you have a leak somewhere and air is getting into the coolant system....that is why you are hearing the gurgling sounds....you need to correct this ASAP as it seems that the Dexcool coolant goes bad once air mixes with it or if it gets low in the system. Start off by flushing out the heater core and also the system and have the cooling system pressure tested to find the leak. Make sure you have the entire system flushed and change the coolant.

I'm hearing the same type of sound, but it is only coming when I am going very slow (under 15kmh) or when I first start moving. As soon as I speed up a bit it is fine though. My fuel pump is going, but I don"t think it is related to the noise at all. The noise seems to be coming from the front passenger side, but it's hard to tell for sure. I have a 4.3L 99 Blazer.
Any ideas?

:smokin: Sounds to me like you need to check you coolent level. have you ever replaced your radiator cap? have you checked your overflow tank for you radiator. Well lets just say mine was donig the same thing because my overflow was empty and my radiator was low. I put in a whole gallon and got a new radiator cap and its fixed. $16 woo hoo. Some dood told me that you are suppoed to check and possibly replace that cap every 30k to 50k miles. makes sense. there is a spring on the inside of the cap. its supposed to hold 16lbs of pressure. Just think of what happens to coiled steel under those hot conditions.... they go bad =) Cool?

I had this same problem but I never did anything to fix it it just went away, and my coolant level is always good. I just figured it was something like water from the road up inside something because when it stopped raining and it dried out it went away, now I'm wondering if it was something else because its exactly how you described it, coming from under the glove box area

I found that I had air trapped in my heater core. I installed a coolant flush kit it the hose leading to the heater core. I flush the core with water then put the hoses back on leaving the cap off the flush kit. Filled the radiator with collant till it came out of the flush kit tee that i installed. Capped the tee off and started the engine. Then as the truck got up to operating temp I kept opening the cap on the tee slightly to release any trapped air. No more gurgling sound and the heater roasts me out now. Hope this helps.

thank you everyone for your ideas!! i flushed the coolant and saw that i needed a new radiator cap. went ahead and had the system pressure tested and luckily no leaks. replaced the cap and refilled the coolant and the noise is gone. its been about 2 days and so far so good. thanks again for all your ideas.

Now I would have never thought of the radiator cap. My 96 was doing the same thing and that fixed the problem. Learn something new everyday
