2nd gear thumpshrkarx2 03-19-2004, 01:30 PM I have a 2001 Durango that shifts with a thump from 1st-2nd when coasting or gently driving . but shifts without the htump when accellerating ? Its done this since about 10,000 it now has 55,000 The dealer didn't find anything at 34,000 . Any Ideas? :banghead: budrick 03-22-2004, 01:45 AM same here dude-I've got about 37k-the dealer adj and replaced the tranny fluid- helped out a bit- he suggested to cange the fluid every 12 to 15k miles shrkarx2 07-03-2004, 09:42 AM Any other ideas? tommychau 07-06-2004, 02:41 PM Does your Durango have Full time AWD? Mine does and makes that thump too sometimes when I release the gas when gently driving. Dealership says its the transfer case making the thumping because it is disengaging when you coast or let off the pedal completely when gently driving. Dealer says this is normal. Same goes when you put your Durango in reverse gear, you hear that thump or clang noise. Clang/Thump is from transfer case. Makes sense. My 4x4 Toyota truck also thumps at times when I completely let off the gas and changing gears using a stick shift and it is confirmed the noise is coming from the transfer case. This noise only occurs when my Toyota is in 4WD mode. 2WD, you will not hear anything. So if your Durango has part time 4WD and still making thumping sounds and you are not in 4WD mode, I don't know what else to say. But if you are on 4WD mode or AWD mode, this noise is normal. shrkarx2 07-07-2004, 06:21 AM No , mine is the standard 2wd hi, 4wd hi, 4wd lo, with limited slip diff. and 4.7 L. Thanks for you input. tommychau 07-08-2004, 08:24 AM If you are still getting the thumping in 2WD mode, it may be your u Joints on the driveshafts wearing out. Then again, this sound may still reflect back to the transfer case. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
