Hi Guys,

Just wondering what sort of tyre to buy for My GTR? I am looking at the moment at Pirelli Pzero Assymetrico (wich is around $500 each). Anyone got any opinions on either this tyre or any others, i want a Excellent performance tyre that will last (reletivly of course!) and is fairly quiet on the road. I am looking in the $300-$500 range...

size is 245/45/17

I have also heard that bridgestone Potenza 990s(?) are good but around $600 imported

Thanks Guys

2.7L - see the flag next to khuges name? That's an aussie flag.

If you want to convert USD to AUD - basically double the USD. Now add shipping. You would get Dunlop FM901s for around $216 AUD (a bit more i think??) each.

I have Nankang NS-1's in 255/40/17's and they hold the road in wet or dry very well. I believe they were about $475 a tyre NZD.

If you want those tyres again some time Vince, gimme a yell, I can do them a fair bit cheaper than that.

I wasnt that happy with the Nankangs. Trying out some Federals now (also budget er.. but a lot cheaper than the Nankangs) er.. better traction but not such good turn in. Havent really tried pushing them.

Er.. I paid NZ$280 for my 255/40R17 Nankang NS1's and er.. $200 for my Federal 255/40R17's

If anyone cares , I can get some 255/40R17 Dunlop SP5000s (not sure of model exactly, but they have a funny tread patern and apparently are brilliant) for approx $250 or so. er.

The brand is Federal, or I can do GT Radials at the same price, the Federals are 535's, I can prolly try to get them in the 595 series, not sure if they make them in the 595 series though. 595's are a lot more stickier but won't last as long. I have a set of 595's on my car and found them pretty good so far.

Well here are some personal experience with do's and don't

-Don't
Toyo T1S - Tread flexes too much

-Do's
Dunlop 901
Michellen MXX3
P7000Z
P Zeros

And remember you do get what you pay for.

And what speeds are the donts and do's rated at?

Depends on what size tires...

Most of the lower profile 45/40 profile tires are ZR rated.

In fact all those tires I have listed here in the 45/40 profiles are ZR rated... because they are MAX performance tires...

At the moment I really rate the P Zero's and Dunlop FM901's because they grip really well in both Dry and Wet.

The FM901's are in a way like a race tire too... it will perform reasonably when cold. But once you heated it up it grips really well... good feed back too.

I don't think P7000's are too good in the wet.

T1's are good grippers but they don't tell you what they are doing and again the tread and sidewall flexes too much.

MXX3 is basiclly a road legal slick.... sticks B L O O D Y well in the dry.... but slow down when its wet...

Here is a link to FM901's in Japan... because they are made there...

What type of setup did you get? Asymetrical for the Rear and Directional for the front?
