My 93 metro sounds just fine in neutral but sounds awful in any other gear. Its an automatic and I'm putting a new trany filter in tomarow, will this help? Or could it be something eles? any advice would be apriciated.

actually the cars been having problems for about a year (a month after i bought it), the hood flew off , latch riped right off breaking the windshield, new water pump, timing belt, vaulve cover gasget,fuel filter, trani filter, the fan was disconected and now its missing the sensor part(you know the thingy magig that makes it turn on, im soo not a mechanic can you tell?) so it doesnt work. and i just found out that im only runing on 2 cilenders istead of 3. i have no idea what to do next. i really like my car, its paid for and gets great gas milage, so i really want to fix it. but ive been told the top end needs rebuilt. might as well tell me to split an atom. i got the book for my car and i can barrow tools but im not sure its even something i should do my self. i can replace stuff and do oil changes, ect, but rebuilding the top of my moter is a little intimidating. my boyfriend has offered to do it, when he has time, but it will get done faster if i do it. he gets so mad when i fix my own car, ha ha, says its unfemine.
