would a O2 sensor make a car not start? my husband wants to know how that works. he thought it onle works when the car is running. he says that he thought a O2 sensor regulates the air in the gas.... I don't know either so i thought i would ask

you have other problems besides the O2 sensor , it would not cause a engine not to start

well i have a wiring mishap that i have hot wired right now while i find the part but i hooked it up to a diagnostic tool and the only thing that came up was code 134 which says "Heated O2 sensor curcuit, insufficient activity detected (pre-converter sensor)"

Well, in the new OBD II software packages they have in the 96+ metros, it is quite possible that the car won't run with a bad o2 sensor. It should have 2 O2 sensors. One before the cat, 1 after. They are pre-heated, so it's a 4 wire sensor(expensive). It could very well not run with a bad o2 sensor. I had a Chrysler that would shut down when my o2 sensors were going bad. The 89-94 metros would run just fine with no o2 sensor. The 95's were an in-betweener year, some had the old programming, some had OBD II. 96+ all had OBD II. Try changing the sensor. It should fix ya up.

For the o2 code check the plug befor replaceing. You will have to get the car running first to see if it is working. The o2 dosn't do anything for the first two min. of running. Check your AFM ( Air Flow Meter) that you was haveing problems with.

Last saturday, I decided to go jogging on the beach. When I finished, I found that someone had broken in & stole my radio (Geo Metro 1996). Well, I stomached it real quick -- I wasn't much into music or talkshow anyway. With nothing better to do, I decided to take my car for an Oil change at Walmart & when I picked it up, I had difficulty starting it & when it did, it made what sounded like a knocking noise. There was no power & it would stall every minute or so. It was basically un-drivable. When I complained about it, they convinced me it was the timing belt that might have slipped. Anyway, I had to tow it home & after a week of hell, we found that the plug to the O2 sensor was disconnected (perhaps when the rookies at wal-mart did the oil change). In minutes we had it running like it was before. Gosh, what a rough week!
