99 grand cherokee will start, won't runsnoopi1 03-14-2004, 10:37 PM Left my jeep stereo on today while cleaning it. 3-4 hours later I went to move it and it would not start. looked like a typical low battery. I jumped the jeep and left cables attached. When I tried to start the jeep again it would start, but as soon as I took my foot off the gas, it would die. I let the battery charge for a while and the same thing happened. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this? I have not had any trouble with the electrical system before this, and it was after my stereo was on for about 1-2 hours. thanks for any advice. mkvapil 03-15-2004, 04:15 AM Had the same problem with my 99 GCL that keeps dying after starting, it was a damaged battery from jump started. After awhile, the battery gets weaker and weaker and the battery no longer will be able to stay charged. The battery need to be replaced. snoopi1 03-15-2004, 08:17 PM Thanks for the reply, I replaced the battery today and the jeep starts and runs great. Appreciate the advice, it saved me from getting towed and robbed at my local jeep dealer. Thanks again!! dksob81 09-16-2004, 03:39 AM for further info, correct way to jump battery, hook both cable to the JUMPER (battery or car), and hook up positive to ur positive terminal on the battery, and negative to a good ground (bolt or something like that). Paul Masley 09-16-2004, 08:34 PM The actual best way is to disconect the ground cable from the car being used to start your vehicle. Then hook the jumper cables cables to the post of that battery and then hook the ground cable of the jumpers to a good metal surface on the dead vehicle. Do not hook neg to neg and pos to pos. One spark could give you a great acid bath and possible a fire or both. Battery gases are explosive. This is specially true if the dead vehicle has a shorted battery. If you attempt to start the vehicle and the other one is running, you also take a serious chance of blowing one of the alternators. It will also destroy a weak battery. dksob81 09-17-2004, 12:11 AM but if u disconnect the Neg battery on the good vehicle, then u take a chance of killing that battery as well. u hook neg(jumper) to good metal surface (Ground) on dead car, and pos to pos. no need to worry about blowing an Altenator. I don't get y u think u would blow an altenator. dksob81 09-17-2004, 12:13 AM email me on ur theory Joe dksob81@hotmail.com vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
