Thanks =) (I hope it's nothing serious....) http://eddie.cis.uoguelph.ca/~low/jeep.gif EMAIL ME AT jeepman600@aol.com & I'LL SEND A ARTICLE HOW TO CLEAN IT UP DALE jeepman600@aol.com spooleffect 03-15-2004, 05:32 PM Get a new PCV valve. rpage 03-15-2004, 07:57 PM It is a problem with the valve cover on the 4.0 motors. What I did was put a valve cover breather filter where the pcv valve goes. Then plug the hole in your airbox and replace your air filter. You'll have no problems. JVCJeep 04-04-2004, 07:42 PM try this, my 1990 4.0 was blowing a quart of oil into the airbox and that made it leak onto the ground. this had me really scared. the thing about replacing the pcv valve on the 4.0 is that there is none and there is no way to put one on because it was designed this way. look on the top of the engine. at the back there is a plastic hose running into it. pull it up and wipe it off. then try to blow through it. if you cannot replace this. i cannot remember what the tube is called, but it is the way for the engine to release some pressure. if the tube is clogged, then it will blow the oil into the air breather box kingslugnut 05-03-2004, 04:01 PM A certain amont of blow-by (leakage between the pistons and the cylinder walls) is normal. The PCV system captures this gas and sends it back thorugh the engine for a second chance at getting burned. The 4.0L engines have a tendency to wear the piston rings unevenly. I've seen several cases where the #1 cylinder wore out around 80-90k miles. A compression check will verify whether the problem is a simple PCV malfunction or engine rebuild time. If you get a cylinder or two reading 70-80 lbs while the rest are up at 130 lbs, there is no way the PCV system can cope. In my case, I could deal with the blow-by around town, but when I took it on the highway to Moab, it was just too much. With the engine working hard at highway speeds, I had to add about a quart of oil at every gas stop. jbsjbs21 06-03-2004, 07:19 PM I agree entirely with JVCJEEP, there is not a pcv valve on the 4.0. it is simply a small hole attached to a hose that runs to the air cleaner. I had the same problem. Just take the plastic piece out of the back end of the valve cover (attached to the hose) and clean it thoroughly, including the hose.
