I have a 1997 chevrolet 1500 Z71 with a vortec 350. First of all i love trucks with loud exhaust. So here's what i have. Since the truck had dual catylitic converters, i ran dual 2 1/2" straight pipes with 4" tips. Although it is loud, it isn't quite the sound i was looking for. Some friends of mine have ford or dodge trucks with basically the same exhaust but there's sound alot smoother. At idle mine sounds kind of airy and makes almost a "blat blat blat" sound and at 2000+ rpms under hard accelleration it sounds alot like glass packs. I wondered what i could do to make my chevy sound smoother without sacrificing my four inch tips or the loudness. I thought about adding a crossover pipe and some flowmaster 40 series mufflers. If anyone has any ideas please share them with me. Thanks.

Did you leave the converters or cut them? If you cut them, then I would suggest you put atleast one back. From my experience, when you cut the converter on a Chevrolet (or any truck for that matter) it makes them have a slapping sound when you really get on it. I have a 1992 model with a 350 and I have the stock converter and a 70 Series Flowmaster muffler and it sounds great. Has the low deep rumble and it doesn't slap at all when I get on it. Now since you want loudness, then I would recomend the 40 series Flowmasters, with the stock converter too.
