1997 astro stalls...whinning sound lound in tank

97 astro 4.3 engine just shuts off ..and will restart sometimes...other times takes forever...fuel pump is whinning real loud in the tank..filter was in bad shape ...changed it and ran great...now it is stallling again..

the problem was pump stopping up with junk in the tank....cleaned strainers and all is great..
