Cleaning Aluminum Whhelsbajafiend 03-11-2004, 01:49 PM Does any body know a product that is the best for shining up my stock 1995 aluminum wheels? Im not sure if there is a clear coat on them or not. I used some 3M cleaner/wax on them and it helped alot. Is there something that will really polish them up? rositis 03-11-2004, 01:59 PM I use mothers mag wheel polish. Not sure if its a good product or not, but I have had good rusults with it! jeverett 03-11-2004, 02:06 PM If its the factory aluminum wheels, I believe they have a clear coat on them. I just use regular soap and water on mine. bajafiend 03-11-2004, 02:13 PM If its the factory aluminum wheels, I believe they have a clear coat on them. I just use regular soap and water on mine. They are the stock wheels. I have washed them alot with soap and water and dried them with towel but they still look hard water stained or something. I am using soft water. Anybody have a solution other than having them completely redone? jeverett 03-11-2004, 02:24 PM Have you tried anything like Greased Lightning?? Or some type of wheel cleaner? slacker_53 03-13-2004, 09:01 AM If they are the stock aluminum wheels, they will have a clear coat and should ploish up with rubbing compound. This will remove hard water stains and also shine them. If the white areas don't come out, it's possible that your clearcoat is separating from the aluminum (very common). The only solution to this that I know, would be media blast the clearcoat off and reclear them. It may be more practical to replace them. my :2cents: -slacker fabrikator 03-13-2004, 05:49 PM I've used an abrasive disc made of nylon or some other synthetic material on the end of an electic roto tool (i.e. Dremel). I think I got the discs at a paint supply place. This took an afternoon for all four wheels but successfully removed the clear coat witout damage to the turned aluminum. I then used Mothers Aluminum polish. Looked better than new. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
