Need 'Mini-Me' help!!!!!90lsvtec 03-08-2004, 11:12 PM i have a 1995 Dx Civic, and the headgasket has recently blown...i wasnt satisfied with the weak d15 that was in the car and the motor overheated quite a bit, so im just getting a d16 head to help me get up hills a little easier. but im on a tight budget and dotnt want to get into anything that is unreliable. the head is a 99 Dx head (i believe a z6?) ,also let me make sure im correct on all of this, i will need a VX timing belt, D16 headgasket, (water pump?), what is the reliability?, how does it perform? (how much of a difference from the d15?) thanks! GScivic7 03-08-2004, 11:40 PM The 99 DX head isn't a Z6. It's a non-VTEC D16Y7 head. The D16Z6 head is the 92-95 Civic EX/Si head. 90lsvtec 03-09-2004, 01:53 PM sorry but the head is a Y8 and it is vtec 90lsvtec 03-10-2004, 11:33 PM JUST NOTICED AN IMPORTANT MISTAKE! the head is a 99 EX head MY BAD!!! 94tegRS 03-11-2004, 12:53 AM about the headgasket, did they get 1.6l over 1.5 by stroke or bore? defman 03-11-2004, 09:22 AM I had a D15b8 in my 94 civic which i did a minime head swap with a y8 head. i gained about 8tenths of a second in the 1/8 but the head gasket blew about three times in 6 months. Maybe i had a severly warped head? I'll never do it again. 94tegRS 03-11-2004, 01:33 PM did you torque the head in the right sequence to the corect steps, becase a mini mi isnt really a powerhouse by any means that qhould blow the head gasket even once in 6 months let alone 3 times, did you ever get the head surfaced when you replaced the headgasket? defman 03-11-2004, 09:36 PM I had the head surfaced the first two times and bought new head bolts the second time and used a 3ply head gasket. Yeah i paid close attention to the torque sequence and the amount of torque used. I guess there was just something wrong with the head? But it was still slower that shit. it ran like a 11 in the 1/8th. but now i have a JDM B16A 94tegRS 03-11-2004, 10:02 PM yeah, but cheap too, and gaining .8 in just the 8th isnt too bad for a cheap head swap. what can you expect with a almost stock 1.5L??? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
