Hey,
new to this forum but it looks like there is plenty of good advice going on around here. Well my biggest quetions is i am looking to change out my engine that i have in my monte carlo and i was wondering what would be the best engine/transmission combo for my car. also i need to put in new gears with it to get the posi track for my car but i would also like to keep the gears reasonable enough for highway mileage but yet give me decent times in the quarter. What is some advice anyone can give me in those areas.

I was thinking something along the line of an 80's corvette engine and transmission??? looking for suggestions.

o yeah and i only have a limited amount of money to do this in about $4000.

Thanx

The GM base 350 model is a great deal for the price. It is 260 HP stock with plenty of torque, no mods needed it will bolt right up to the stock tranny. A 350 tranny or the stock would be good for that motor. It is brand new and costs about 1,300. Check out jegs.com

if you want to do the quarter in a decent time the best thing would be a 350 engine that has about 350 hp/340ft.lb. you can get one from jegs or summit for about $2,300. then a t400 trans with a shift kit you can get one rebult for about $1,200 then you'll need 373's in the rearend. you'll do 75mph@3000rpm down the freeway and have a decent track time.
