hey everyone, im going to be getting my first car, and though i would definatly like to get a gsx, they're so hard to find/expensive/have high mileage that it would be easier if i just got a gst. i would just REALLY like awd. i plan on boosting the hp to, say, 300ish, maybe more. i saw on some car show (maybe car&driver, i dont know) that if you have over 250hp on an fwd, it just spins the tires and isnt worth it.

thing is, most of the people talking around here talk about the gsx, and how great it is, which i think is true i mean you cant beat awd. i would just like someone to tell me that the gst is a good choice, and that the gsx isnt the only good dsm out there. i really dont care if its all just BS either.

1 thing that im trying to think of is that my other choices would be an integra or a gti, so since they both have fwd, fairly similar weight and not even as much power, a GST would be the best choice i could make. i duno, it just seems sinfull to get an eclipse thats pretty much just as ricey as all the RSs out there.

I have a gst and i absolutly love it. i just got it about 3 months ago though. to tell you the truth i haven't spun the tires once but i auto tranny in it. and it needs some work. I personnally belive that no matter awd fwd you are gonna love the car they're comfortable and a blast to drive.

my RS isnt too ricey and i have 350hp! yes i can spin the tires as much as i want but it just takes practice not to spin them when you launch! right now i am workin on a GST and i hope to have that car into the 11's by the end of the year... yea you all might be skeptical about it but i have the money to do it, it just takes time and knowledge! which is my biggest hold up right now... i work 4 jobs and barely have enough time to sleep! so the time to work on my car is limited! plus i am trying to learn as much about the car, thats why i am here! and by all the work myself also allow me know get a handle for the car and know what the limits are and also to learn! good luck at finding the car!

i apologize for calling RSs ricey, i was only refering to those who have a body kit and a fart cannon w/o any power

no need to apologize, i wasnt mad at all, i was just being a smart ass and stating that they can actually be quick cars!

I had the same debate in my heat when i purchased my GST spyder. i'll tell you i have never been happier. i wanted 4 wheel drive but there is a lot of potential for drivetrain complications and excessive wear of tires. i have done only minimal mods and i'll be the first to encourage a good set of tires and a little practice and off the line starts will amaze you. i upgraded to 245 zr 45's on 17x8 rims. this deffinately helped me to keep the wheels from spinning. i didn't want to go any bigger because the car is at its fastest with a 16 to 17 inch rim however you slightly decrease your overall, but nothing you'll notice on everyday driving. i say go for it and buy the GST. good luck :evillol:

thanks, thats very good advice. i have to admit, my first car choice is a 94 stealth RT TT that im waiting to go see, probably next week, but if that falls through then its dsm for me baby!

yeah, i went out and test drove both the stealth TT and a GST. these were my first 2 test drives ever, and i have to say that i would much rather get the dsm. i say this for a few reasons. first, im 6'2" so there is a headroom issue with both lol, BUT seeing as how this is my first car, when i test drove the stealth i got it up to 130 with the sales guy still in the car (he didnt mind). that car doesnt want to be driven the speed limit, it wants to be raced all of the time! i dont need that right now, being 17 is accident prone enough. the gst i drove was nice, lighter, easir to shift, and also has SOME more headroom. if i can find a gsx ill b set, but if i cant ill have no problems with a gst. i cant believe im saying this, but the stealth is just too much power for me!

just wait untill you start modding the gst!!! i can get to 130 real quick! and barely out of 4th gear! you will have a blast with the car, but if you grow any more you may be a bit too big... lol ... really they are great cars. i wanted a gsx, but i got my spyder for like 9k, so i was like ok...ok. i love it to death. and you can do things to prevent wheel spin like solid engine mounts and suspension. also a limited slip diff will greatly help...

well, this all may be solved! reason?...i just found a GSX about an hour away from me, its got 50k mikes, 5 speed, $12k, no damage, dealer warranty...if i can get the $$ together, i might have my dream come true! lol...

thanks guys though, i realize now that the GSTs arent such a step below the GSX.

yeah, i have a gst and i love it. You have to consider that also more than a third of the race cars out there are only 2 wheel drive. When you buy a supra you dont have the option of getting an all wheel drive model, but with the DSMs we luckily do have a choice. Good luck with whatever you get.

thanks guys. i think that im just weary of 2 wheel drive cause im not TOTALLY into the import car thing, meaning that my dad has rubbed off enough on me so that i still love muscle cars. therefore im partial to cars putting down power through the rear wheels (AWD included). maybe THATS why i want a gsx, i dunno. but if i get it, it will be in the next week so ill keep posting.

thanks again!
