more speed for my 98 Malibu?bluedsteel40 03-06-2004, 12:39 AM I just recently bought a 98 malibu 2.4 litre. I'm going form driving a truck with a 454 to a 4 cylinder car. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get more power. I'm going to get the K&N filter and possibly the Iceman cold air intake. I'm very skepticle about the chips offered on webites. also if anyone knows where i can get the euro head/tailights at for the 98 I'd really appreciate it. I've looked everywhere. Thanks, let me know if yall have any ideas for me. Kevin wpbharry 03-06-2004, 02:13 AM Kev, sounds like one NASTY divorce (with you and the other half or you and the truck). Anyways, I'll never forget going from a Ford V-8 to a Honda 4 in the early 90's. You'll never get over it, trust me. The Malibu 3100 V-6, which I have in my '98 LS is pretty peppy, but, alas, not yours. Clean her up, sell her, and buy something better. Sage advice. HE IS NO 1 03-09-2004, 11:21 PM I have looked over the mountain and accross the seas looking for those head lights and tail lights buit they are not out there. I think there is a place where you can get clear tail lights for about 400. I think the link was on here in the malibu section that I found it. I will e-mail you if I find it. ViperJ 03-10-2004, 09:30 PM Hey i know what your going throught with the truck. I also owned a V-8 equiped truck but know have the malibu. I can help if your looking for performance parts. First i would suggest http://www.rsmracing.com/us/main.htm Navigate to the malibu section and you will fin 10-150 hp improvements. My suggestion would be stage 1 supercharger kit with a 50 shot of nos. That will make you very fast considering the malibu weights 3900lbs. Hope this helps burly 03-13-2004, 12:08 PM If you are going to spend $6k on a supercharger and NOS (not to mention several grand more to upgrade the componentry to handle it) then I recommend either doing an engine swap, to say the 3.4L, which is fairly easy (as engine swaps go). That, or just save your money and replace the vehicle. Another thing to be aware of, on the books the 4T40-E transmission that is used in the 98-03 Malibu's is only rated at 190ft-lbs max engine torque. While you have some play room with the 2.4L, the 3.1L right off the bat makes 190ft-lbs. The 3.1L is the largest engine that is mated to the 4T40-E tranny, so its likely that this is the reason they've only spec'd it at 190ft-lbs, but I'm not really sure what its reliable limits are. Something to keep in mind. bluedsteel40 03-13-2004, 02:07 PM Thanks for the info everyone, yall have been more than helpful. I got his at a red light a couple days ago and the little damage it cause they totaled my car. so its on to another car and another project. Thanks again everyone.
