300zx tranny + 240sx = ??sRscooby 03-05-2004, 01:22 AM hey, i've been looking at this 91 240sx that has a 300zx tranny in it currently, and i was wondering if this would be compatible with a (future :D) sr20det? also, what kind of performance would i expect from the tranny? a big increase in torque?? i'm pretty new at this stuff and just registered here today :werd: thanks J_Spec_NiTeMaRe 03-05-2004, 01:26 AM hey, i've been looking at this 91 240sx that has a 300zx tranny in it currently, and i was wondering if this would be compatible with a (future :D) sr20det? also, what kind of performance would i expect from the tranny? a big increase in torque?? i'm pretty new at this stuff and just registered here today :werd: thanks Iv'e never heard of a 240 with a 300z tranny in it...but cool. An SR will use it's own tranny if you do a swap. Your engine makes torque, not your transmission. A well geared tranny will help you use that torque though. sRscooby 03-05-2004, 01:33 AM ya i tried doing a search for 300zx + tranny but nothing came up, must not be very common swap but is pretty cool. so would the tranny be able to fit onto the sr? not too sure if it'd be better/worse than the stock sr tranny though musicsurfman 03-05-2004, 09:07 AM Are You Sure Its A 300zx Tranny? Becasue Who Ever Did It They Must Have Made An Adapter Plate Or Hacked Up The Bell Housing, And They Had To Totally Rebuild The Shifter Because If They Kept It Stock It Would Be In The Container Arear Of The Center Console. 300zx Trannies Have Extended Linkages For There Shifters And It Sits A Few Inches Behind The Out Put Shaft On The Tranny. Also This Trans On A Ka Would Make It Into A Dog, It Would Be Extremely Slow Of The Line But Really Quick Uptop Because The 300zx Trans Has Really Low Gearing For The Higher Hp Motor Its Attached To. sRscooby 03-05-2004, 11:49 AM i haven't had a chance to look under the car yet but ya he said the tranny was like an inch longer than the normal ka tranny, so there must have been some modification or some hardcore jamming in heh, the shifter is also in its stock area, but ill have to take a closer look under the car next time i check it out. musicsurfman 03-05-2004, 11:59 AM He Would Also Need A New Driveshaft That Was Shorter W/ A New Yoke On It. This Project Would Be Over $1k For No Gain Whatsoever. nissanfanatic 03-05-2004, 03:11 PM more money than its worth by a lot. 1viadrft 03-05-2004, 03:51 PM ... I don't believe a Z trans can fit a 240sx... rubbish! NiteKids 03-05-2004, 05:39 PM Oh a stupid post on automotive forums...no way!? musicsurfman 03-05-2004, 05:46 PM yes the z tranny can fit if you adjust the bellhousing or make an adapter plate. the 300zx tranny is the same as the rb25 and the bellhousing is the same as the ka24e with different mounting dowel locations. wingsofwar 03-06-2004, 03:51 AM whoa really?..hmm never thought of this...i have a spare 5speed from a 91 Z32 TT...interesting.. Fliquer 03-06-2004, 11:16 AM Well if anything it would increase the gearing, allowing the KA's torque curve to be realized. It would also increase the top speed. sRscooby 03-06-2004, 06:42 PM alright cool, thanks for the info! 1viadrft 03-06-2004, 06:48 PM So the RB25 will fit the 300ZX tranny? Can someone confirm this??? Isn't the RB26 adaptable then? If so... you may all be in trouble!!! drftk1d 03-07-2004, 12:23 AM ^ i would seem that way. All i ever heard was that the 3z atmo tranny would fit the rb20 and 25. I dont know about the 26. Why 1via, are ya gonna drop a 26 into the Z? musicsurfman 03-08-2004, 08:33 AM The Rb Series Trans Supposedly Swaps Between The Vg Series Motors But I Can Confirm That. All The Rb Series Trans Swap Between Each Other, So If One Rb Trans Fits The Vg They All Do, Including The 6-spd R34 Rb26dett Trans. 1viadrft 03-08-2004, 02:37 PM ^ i would seem that way. All i ever heard was that the 3z atmo tranny would fit the rb20 and 25. I dont know about the 26. Why 1via, are ya gonna drop a 26 into the Z? HAHAHA! You have uncovered my PLANS! I was actually thinking about doing it (RB26DETT or VG30DETT)... but now that you guys say it may bolt onto my tranny... then you guys may have something to worry about sooner!
