Help with tiptronics

Hmm, I hear a lot about tiptronics, but the problem is i dont kow what they are talking about. I heard something about if your into street racing, never get a tiptronic? Im not into street racing im jus curious. Can anyone tell me what it is and how its bad for racing, i cant find it explained well on any internet sites...
