THE ultimate in JDM for sale :)13secondcivic 01-04-2002, 03:24 PM hey guys, for anyone wanting to go nuts and really do a USDM -> JDM conversion...I have a rear and front lower subframe from a 91 Civic SiR...it's right hand drive and has the full steering setup and all! ;) make an offer..... Moppie 01-04-2002, 09:42 PM Asshole! Sorry vince. Iv been looking for one for god knows how long, mine is bent and my left wheel caster is out by a few cm's. Some dork passed a line of cars while I was comeing the other way, I had the choice of a large pot hole opn the side of the road or a head on crash with him. I want that subframe!!!!!!!! damn you. Now heres the news you really dont want to here. Its almost totaly useless to you. :D It will not bolt up to a non EF9 chassis. Its not even an easy job of redrilling some new mounting holes. Its a major job, and requires some reshapping of the frount of the chassis to make it all fit, then you have to get all the SiR frount suspension, control arms, struts etc, and make new mounting points for them in the suspension turrets etc. Sorry. but unless someone is prepared to either spend a lot of money, or get real busy with an angle grinder and welder its worthless. We looked at doing a subframe swap to Worshps rex, and I had a talk with a wrecker who had tried it on a CRX and Civic, he had tried modifying the chassis, but gave up when he realised just how big a job it would be. But Ill tell you what, Ill take it off your hands for the cost of shipping it down this way. :) 13secondcivic 01-04-2002, 10:05 PM hmm.....figure out the cost....maybe do UPS or something...and i'll see what I can do here...send me the money for shipping and it's yours. I don't need more crap lying around :) Setanta 01-05-2002, 03:41 AM Moppie: Will the EF8 CRX subfrmae match? There was a front cut at a wreckers nearby some months ago. If you need, I'll go and see if it's still there and we can work something out for shipping if they will part the cut out. I owe you so it's no hassle and it's prolly cheaper to ship one across the Tasman than across the world :) Moppie 01-05-2002, 08:38 PM Cool guys! Thanks. Amazing that here in NZ with out mass of JDM crap everywhere and Im having to go overseas to buy JDM parts! :( Ill have a look for a UPS or Fed ex or similar company here thats prepared to do ship to a private adress. (most only want to deal with bussiness customers) Vince, could you do me a favour? Measure and weigh the subframe. Shipping cost is based on size and weight. All I need is the frame, none of the extra stuff. You can still use the axles (you'll need the axles), and the brakes. (I highly recomend you use the brakes, you'll love them) I think the springs will also fit, but the shocks are differnt, they do however fit an EG civic. For the back end the shocks and springs will bolt up, as will the brakes. but the suspension arms I think are differnt. (you should be able to just switch the hubs over) Thanks guys! 13secondcivic 01-05-2002, 10:12 PM I'll strip it down and try and get a weight on it. hey, can you get a SiR service manual down under? I got my civic manual from HELM, and was going to get a Del Sol manual...but SOMEONE has to have a SiR manual from 91!!?? There about NZ$800-1200 Ex Honda Japan. :) (Im not kidding either. and that dosnt include translation into english) Your better off just useing the one for the USDM B16a, there are few differnces between the engines. Its the one problem with cars sold only in Japan, the Japanese are not into working on thier own cars. They tend to pay others, and so there are few home shop manuals made for many JDM cars. This means the only manuals avlaible are the factory ones. Which are incedibly expensive, and all in Japanese. (you should be able to just switch the hubs over) Heheh - front shocks are the same size (but heavier rating) as a std 4G Moppie but the tower top rubbers are slightly narrower to suit the winding on the progressive rate springs. They still mount to the SiR bay though. I have EG struts on the front of my SiR which are 2mm wider than the 4G/SiR ones and I needed to change to EG wishbones at the bottom. Rear: Springs are fine, but the struts insert into the arms as opposed to sliding over the top of the brackets (guess who found this out the hard way? :D Slightly different mounting points for the top of the suspension arms, better to go an Si CRX rear end which bolts straight on and uses the same disks and calipers. BTW, the offer stands if the US deal falls through on the frame :) We seem to be getting a few front clips in here and there - getting them to split it off the engine is the hard part but I can prolly work something out :) Moppie 01-06-2002, 04:13 PM Originally posted by Setanta Heheh - front shocks are the same size (but heavier rating) as a std 4G Moppie but the tower top rubbers are slightly narrower to suit the winding on the progressive rate springs. So the EF9 shocks will work, provided you use the EF9 or similar springs... cool. My next big thing is going to be new shocks, and after talking to a few people with lowered SiRs here they all said they either had to get some altered to fit, or do what you've done and got to EG struts. Something I dont really want to do. Maybe Honda will have a special on new factory shocks. :) Setanta 01-06-2002, 08:06 PM The other thing you can do with the springs is to take the rubber inserts out of the upper cups that mount to the engine bay. Look inside and you will see it has a series of rubber bumps. get a stanley knife and trim them back to suit. The aftermarket springs then fit with no problems. I tried an old set of Aussie GL front shocks in the SiR wishbones I pulled off - they fit fine :) I'm going to hunt down some height adjustable coilovers for my SiR - I've decided to do handling and leave the engine pretty much standard. Plus, if I want to return it to stock then it's a matter of swapping the originals back in :) Nohemicalvo 10-18-2004, 06:44 PM hey guys, for anyone wanting to go nuts and really do a USDM -> JDM conversion...I have a rear and front lower subframe from a 91 Civic SiR...it's right hand drive and has the full steering setup and all! ;) make an offer.....
