Can I just change struts w/o springs?

One mechanic told me to replace front shock absorber w/o springs .
Is it reasonable ?
My car is accord 97 .
& my purpose is just for smooth ride .

Lots of people replace the shocks without replacing the springs. Usually the shock goes out first. And many people who autocross and stay in stock class upgrade their shocks only.

very true i ran with just upgraded shocks for a while. But for just manitaing a car replacing you shocks most of the time won't need new springs.

and i got one more question , we can feel the shocks absorbers go out easily , but how i can know it's the time to change springs .

Springs usually take a LONG time to wear out.
