Interior Rattles anyone? Help!?!

I just purchased a 93.5 G20 and it only has 56K on it and looks really good. I enjoy the car a lot BUT there is just one thing I am slightly annoyed with. There are two sources of rattle sounds. One comes from the sunroof and the other from the back somewhere. The one from the back almost sounds like two pieces of plastic rubbing together somewhere. Has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions/ideas on a fix? I was thinking silicone spray on the sunroof but don't know if that would do it. I have no clue on the rubbing sound from the back area though. Anyone please?

I have a 1993 P10... I wish I could say I've experienced the same problem, but I don't hear anything but a clunking in my trunk...

Could you be more specific as to where in the back you hear it??? Is it coming from maybe a door?? The rear deck?? That would be helpful! :D

O.k. I think it is something on the rear deck... Maybe I need to check to see if the speakers are properly tightened? I have noticed that it seems to be much worse when the car is really cold (IE it was only 20 overnight and I am parked outside). When I went out during lunch today, I barely noticed the noise... and I had the sunroof cracked open (on tilt) and it made that noise go away so I'm wondering what the acceptable procedure is for that? WD-40 or ???

These things are so tough to find out where they are coming from and what to do about it....the best thing i can say to do is you need to have someone else ride with you...maybe even inside the trunk

Also you can use a hose and hold it up to your ear to pin point a rattle...sometimes it works

If all else fails, crank up the tunes! :)

rattles and buzzes are typical on these g20's. actually got a new rattle coming from the center console around the hazard/defroster light trim recently. it's from the engine revving differently during cold starts. it's a big buzzz noise so need to take apart that trim again soon to tighten it down. such a pain in the ass.

I have a few annoying rattles one is from the rear deck and another is when it is cold outside my hood rattles when I first start my car. Im not sure why but it does this but since it just got cold I just started to notice it and it bugs me any fixes would be greatly appreciated. The other rattles appear and go away every day in diifferent spots those i usually try to ignore though.

I dont usually hear rattles because of my music but I put it on mute the other day and there was a rattle coming from up front which pisses me off because I just got one fixed up front, but this is from a different spot that I cant find. I also heard a squeak sound but couldn't find out where it was coming from either.

yeh, this is not a very high quality car when it comes to rattles and noises. i got this ticking noise upfront by the windshield too when going over bumps...especially when its cold these noises get pretty darn apparent.

Ya, the squeak I heard was from my shocks or something to do with the suspension because when I go down my driveway it squeaks like crazy.
Then my sunroof has a hole or something it it because I can hear air come into it and it always "howls" which is a pain in the butt.
Then.. I have a rattle coming from my front right dash,
AND THEN whenever I close my door it sounds like crap, don't know whats wrong with it

I have the same thing in my 2k G I have taken three times to have it fixed and each time they say they got it but as soon as it gets cold it comes right back, drives me crazy. If you ever figure out what it is please let me know.

One of the bad rattles on my car is the vent that detects the temp inside the car and also has a red blinking light on it.

i havent looked at it closely (since i got use to these noises...) but that ticking sound seems to be coming from right infront of the driver's seat on the dash...might be near the security LED. but the thing is, I fix it and a month or so later, another new rattle or buzz come into play. so its endless... :(

I have a strong feeling it is the cold that makes it worse because it got up to about 45 the other day and it didn't hear anything at all... go figure... oh well... life goes on.. don't sweat the small stuff as they say.. thanks for your replies everyone!

kenchan, I also got the security LED rattle fixed at the dealership and the next day it was doing it again. You would probably have so seal it down tight with some silicone or something; not too big of a deal though.

cool, thanx for the info. ill look into it when I get a change hopefully sometime this week. :D ill probably put on some sort of a gasket or a boot on there to tighten it up.

I think I can help w/ the sunroof rattle:

While you're driving with the sunroof closed, see if you can eliminate the rattle by reaching up and holding down the pop-up wind deflector at the leading edge of the opening.

This was the only source of irritating noise on my mint 124K G20t (well, other than Larry King's or Susan Powter's voice on the radio, that is).

For a cure, I just stuck a wee bit of sticky-back velcro tape on top of the deflector.

I hope that's all it takes. My car is otherwise rattle-free, even with the AGX's set on "4".

My guess: Your rear brake light assembly in the rear window may be loose- go ahead and give it a yank to take it off.

look at the metal bracket that holds down the brake light housing.

take some electrical tape- and wrap it around the bracket to make it "bigger" so that it will hold onto the plastic brake light housing tighter.

hopefully that solves your problem- if not- check to see if those three little plastic screws in the rear deck are in good condition- if they're broken- then that may be your problem... they screw THROUGH the rear deck and INTO the metal plate underneath it.

hope this helps.
