Help checking codes!!!!!!!!!!

Can I check the service engine codes on my 1997 Grand Am. If so please tell me how and where to find the codes.

your 97 is OBD II so you need a scan tool to check codes.

AutoZone checks the codes for free

Whow, cool. I wish I knew that a couple of months ogo. I almost bought a scan tool for about $75. Of course they don't tell you that when you go in. I suppose you have to ask about it for them to do it? When I went in asking about checking codes, they said buy this or take it to the dealer.
