Key Won't Turn !sonya2608 02-29-2004, 10:16 PM I have a 2000 Dodge Neon, and recently I have had to jiggle the key to actually get the ignition to turn. Now it won't turn at all. Should I go to the dealer, and have a new key made? What could be causing the key not to turn once in the ignition? MStout 02-29-2004, 11:55 PM Sometimes the wheel will make it do that...like the tilt and the direction its turned. It happened to my moms Lumina...dont know about Neons though. Try it. rolnaldo33 03-04-2004, 03:59 PM yeah, sometimes the steering wheel lock (which is a security measure to make the wheel not turn unless the key is in) will make the ignition hard MachShockSRT4 03-05-2004, 03:00 PM Yes i have a SRT-4 and my ignition is the same way. So maybe try what they said it should work. If not take it into a dealer. 2bseen 05-02-2006, 09:39 AM i have 2000 neon and Saturday it seems by steering wheel is locked and the key will not turn and i cant unlock the wheel...any help? I have that problem with my mom's 02' jetta, i go nuts everytime the wheel locks, it's hell to get that key to turn, the wheel on my 00' neon's never locked before, so i'm hoping that never has to happen to me  BlazerLT 05-04-2006, 11:53 PM Make sure the shifter is firmly in park if it is a auto. das2123 05-05-2006, 09:33 AM i have 2000 neon and Saturday it seems by steering wheel is locked and the key will not turn and i cant unlock the wheel...any help?Try and rotate the wheel a little before turning the key. FemaleRacer 05-19-2006, 06:08 AM Ok-lets get a few of the obvious things out of the way....is it a brand new or old key? Have you even cleaned your locks or ignition. I know that may sound dumb but you should use lock cleaner in all your locks and ignition as part of your regular "tune up" routine. I know i keeps my keys in my purse set them down on the bar at work, etc. all that crap gets on your keys and into your locks and they start to not line up correctly. I had this exact problem. If this doesn't work a locksmith can come out on location and replace the ignition "barrel" and set it up to match your current keys. Keeping everything one key and and costing a whole lot less than the dealership. Sometimes the barrels crack. Also-is it possible that you have a faulty ignition switch? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
