Which neon is better?Neon1996 02-29-2004, 01:43 PM The 95-99 dohc neon has 150 horsepower and the sohc has 132. But which is better in the quarter mile. the sohc has a better low end and in a quarter mile u figure your not really goin that fast so which is better stock? blachdohcneon 03-01-2004, 12:47 AM dohc is better, diff gear ratios with dohcs too Viscous 03-02-2004, 11:54 PM ummm dohc > sohc MachShockSRT4 03-03-2004, 03:53 PM SRT-4 blows all them out the water. :-) 209 neon 03-03-2004, 05:30 PM sohc with a dohc tranny would help your single. MachShockSRT4 03-05-2004, 01:01 PM SRT-4 if your looking for speed, Potential, and Handling. 98NeonExprDOHC 03-21-2004, 06:38 PM DOHC 150HP version. Dust most normally asperated (non turbo / super charger) competition. Good blank sheet starting point for mods. Neon1996 03-27-2004, 07:50 PM Ive got a few in mind like a magnum swap and just go from there Scatch! 04-01-2004, 09:28 PM Yep. Stock, the Magnum beats the DOHC. Modified, the DOHC has more potential for power. eurobeaner 04-01-2004, 09:49 PM the dohc is actually pretty fast...my friend has one that had a AEM-cold air intake and a full exhaust(header back) and can easily cherp the tires through 2nd and if your lucky in 3rd...the only prob is the damn head gasket...theyre know for blowing out, and the engines leak oil no matter what u do Scatch! 04-01-2004, 10:18 PM the dohc is actually pretty fast...my friend has one that had a AEM-cold air intake and a full exhaust(header back) and can easily cherp the tires through 2nd and if your lucky in 3rd... And his is modified. Stock-for-stock, the Magnum has a better power curve. the only prob is the damn head gasket...theyre know for blowing out, and the engines leak oil no matter what u do Utter nonsense. The HG problem was fixed YEARS ago. If a Neon leaks after the new, updated HG was installed, it wasn't done properly. Period. Dodgegoof 04-01-2004, 11:28 PM A SOHC that is correctly tuned can eat up most DOHC engines.... Always go for the underdog!! eurobeaner 04-11-2004, 04:49 PM my friend's is a 95 sooo.....his is one of the crappy years Liz123 04-11-2004, 06:11 PM It depends.. The SOHC base Neon and DOHC/SOHC ACR verisons are the quickest Neons due to their extremely light weight. A 96-99 SOHC base neon (no options) would most likely take a R/T. I have driven both cars and my base coupe seems a few shades faster than the R/T, but then again I took out the weather stripping under the hood, took off the snorkel, added a K&N, and I have a DOHC muffler. Liz Liz123 04-11-2004, 06:14 PM SRT-4 blows all them out the water. :-) It's my understanding that the only difference between the base tranny and the R/T trannys is the 5th gear.. I read that on the org.. so not sure.. firsttimer95 04-11-2004, 10:02 PM I read the same thing. 5th gear is taller and that's the only difference that I saw. I don't think 95 is the crappiest one though eurobeaner. It has a more agressive cam than the later years. How's that dohc muffler work for you liz? I'm about to put one on mine and rig myself a cai from a dodge caravan intake I got this weekend. cobradude360 04-17-2004, 10:30 PM dual over head cam R/T drag1320neon 04-20-2004, 04:20 PM according to neonparts.net/cnnpracing, the single cams are able to make more power than the dual, not the 2.4l but the 2l csmoot_213 09-20-2004, 01:32 AM I have a 95 neon sohc and i have it modded a bit and it is pretty quick...... even when it was stock it was quick i find it quicker then my friends 97 ex witch has the dohc vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
