I have retrieved code 214 from continous memory on a 94 Escort 1.9.
The code reads "cylider identification circuit failure". Anyone know what to do about that? I assumed it was related to the cam or crank position sensor, but both are good. Any ideas are appreciated!

Shall I assume nobody has any information about this? I have searched the net and have only found a description of the error code... have not found any information regarding how to troubleshoot it.

Cylinder identification circuit failure would have to do with the cam sensor circuit. You will need a labscope to diagnose this problem correctly. The cam sensor sends the CID signal every other crank revolution. It must occur when cylinder #1 is at TDC to trigger the sequential fuel injection. If the PCM doesn't receive a CID signal, it will resort to batch fire (the injectors fire together rather than on the intake stroke for each cylinder). With the labscope, you should see a variation in the crank sensor signal for cylinder #1 TDC and a CID signal every other crank TDC signal. If there is no CID signal, there is a fault with the cam sensor/circuit. If the signals don't align, your cam is likely out of time.

Thanks. Tha tis very helpful to know. I knew what components were in the circuit, but I did not know how the circuit functions. I know that the sensors are good, so by what you told me I should expect that the timing is slightly off... If the timing check sout ok, then I suppose it is erlated to the computer? I'll check the timing and see where that leads.
