my check engine light just recently came on and I looked up the code, it was "22 Engine coolant temp sensor out of range ". anyone know what causes this or where the sensor is located?

sounds like the sensor is bad. the sensor is located in the Thermesat housing were your upper radiator hose is at. Not hard at all to change just need a small socket set.
