:( Hello Everyone

After getting the 2001G20 Loaner, I notice it was ALOT faster than my 1999 G20, or rather it just seem to response faster.

Since Infiniti didn't alter the car as far as I can see, they must have figure a way to tweak the engine for faster response.

I'm not a mechanic, and I don't know much about car parts
I can use all the advice I can get. the local Recycler have alot of
Muffler + Air-Intake upgrade stuff.

but there are so many ads, I don't know WHO or WHAT to believe

1. Where do I go
2. How much should I pay for Intake/Muffler
3. what is the difference between muffler and catalyic converter
4. does this void my warrantee
5. any recommendation on shops?

The best place to start is www.g20.net Everything you've ever wanted to know about the G20 and then some.

http://www.se-r.net/car_info/engine_performance_tuning.html

the g20 has the same engine as the se-r.

the people who wrote this are well informed.

what I know if that I need to find a good value/performance
Muffler with a cold-air intake

If you don't want to read all that stuff, here is your lucky day. If you want cold air intake, go with HotShot or Stillen - Around $200-215. Now you said a muffler, you want just the muffler or the whole exhause. A muffler is just that the big thing you see at the end of the car. If you follow that pipe towards the front of the car, you'll find the catalytic converter. You need this to pass inspection. A Greddy cat-back exhaust runs about $600. A plain muffler would cost anywhere between $100-300. If you want sound, get a muffler, if you want even better sound and performance, get a cat-back, meaning bigger piping from the catalytic conerter to the muffler. Gains include:
CAI~8hp
Muffler~2hp
Cat back~5hp
hp gains are a rough amount.

Thanks everyone, but I still find the information overwhelming

It seem to me the best performance/value can be gain from an exhaust upgrade (am I wrong? what is your opinion?)

here are the critria I'm shooting for
* CHEAP but FAST performance
* I don't care about LOUD sond from muffler, I just want speed

what that in mind,
any EXHAUST recommendation? What Manufacture, what model, what price, and where is a good place in SouthernCal to go for complete purchase and installation?

Also, is it hard to change a Muffler by yourself?
Is it just a NUTS & BOLTS job or is it somethign more complicated?

Buy a Muffler or even better a header and a CAI. They are both pretty much a "NUTS & BOLTS job" as you call it :)

Where as concerning the response I would maybe consider an Ultra Light Flywheel! It gives no HP but reduces the mass the car has to rotate and makes thereby the engine take rpm faster. WORKS ;)
