hey everyone... i just got a 93 300ZX NA AT and Im ready to do SOMETHING!.. everyone I talk to says its not worth it, "save up and buy a TT"...but I'm bored and I can't afford a TT for a while so..

I was interested in a CAI or Pop Charger (or both?) 1st.. any thoughts on whats better? I read on z31.com that CAIs dont really work ... "Don't bother with cold air intakes until you manage to block/bypass the intake manifold heating." is this true?

also. CAT back exhausts and ECU mods? any brand suggestions? I cant spend a fortune.. but I dont want junk either, ya know?

Thanks!

Get an Injen intake system for starters. Then go with Stillen headers, NISMO thermostat for coolings sake. Get a cat-back system, HKS, Stillen who ever, get a Z1 re-programmed ECU... And some good old Dinitrite Monoxide , or N20... Or Nitrous Oxide those who havent figured it out yet... Doesnt hurt either, haha. Be carefull with that shit though. If you want some more nut here, go with a Z1 polished, honed, and extruded upper and lower plennums, get some 550cc NISMO injectors (they wont do much until bigger mods come, but they should help some) get a TT MAF meter, NGK triple prong double platinum sparkplugs are always good. Jun Cam gears. Most of this crap can be found at SGPRacing.com, or Z1motorsports.com. Peace foo's :p

the 300zx already has cai. where the air comes in is away from the engine bay, so it is already bringing in cooler air. so just go with a pop charger. that only reason i would buy a cai system is for the better looking pipes. in modding cars, i would always start with what is important, breathing and exhaling. so get the intake, then the exhaust, then the headers, then the throttle body, then the performance intake manifold, the performance cams, and so on.

thanks for the advice... I like the Injen look but - i found a JWT Pop charger for $90 so I think Im gonna get that... although, I just bought this Z and its got 90K on it and I dont know if the previous owner (repo) had the timing belt and water pump changed so I guess that takes priority before I nuke my engine...

regardless - thanks for the advice Zoso and Freak.

Just get drop in K&N filters.... freakonaleash is right... the Z's air intake system works like a CAI already!

If that wasnt done bro, TRUST ME, GO WITH SGPRacing.com's 60k MANTAINANCE KIT!!!! My tensioner went, causing the heads to be completely destroyed, luckily no damage to the lower end... Wheeaaa... Luck. Its 300 bucks, for everything. Water pump, seals, timing belt, accesory belts... Everything. Or buy the underdrive pulley at the same time, and save cost on the belts. Thats what I would do personally. But you could easily tickle that thing up HP wise... Just make sure you do it right. Peace foo's :p

If you're on a budget, go to ebay. They sell basically the same thing as the injen system, but for a lot less. you get the pretty polished intake tubes and the filter.
2nd! on the sgp 60K kit. I'm going with them too.

Good call Zoso.. I got the parts for the 60K service and I'm having them thrown in on Wed. I figure get the engine healthy before taking steroids!

Thanks for the advice.
