Wonder if the engine will be used on the new Mustangs. Like for a Cobra R or something.

why put a v10 in the mustang when you could just put a v8 in it, get the same displacement, and get the same power???

Dunno.

The engine is being used in the new AC Cobra concept that Carroll Shelby helped design. It's a bas ass motor!!!!!

Actually this V-10 and the one in the Shelby Concept are 2 different motors. One is a V-10 351cu 500HP motor like the one in that Stang. The Shelby concept uses a V-10 427cu 600HP motor.

Yeah, but thier still based off the same design, running as two inline 5's.

do you want bitch-slapped? :screwy: of all the guys youd expect that from you wouldnt expect it from a mustang guy! you are starting to sound like a ricer. i can think of a few reasons. first off.
"What you got under the hood?"
"351 Boss, V-10"
"V-10??!!"
"Yeah, a V-10"

they are not just for the super duty's anymore.

i think YOU want to get bitch slapped, who cares if its a v10, personally i would want to stick to the mustang tradition and keep a v8 in a stang. if i wanted a v10 id buy a viper. why even add the extra weight of a larger motor when you can have a 351CI v8 putting out the same ammount of power. that doesnt sound ricer at all.

It's also aluminum-blocked I believe, so it still weighs less than the GT Blocks. And if it fits, why the hell not put it in, it's badass.

Just a thought but why would Ford develop a new engine design with 10 cylinders and come up with 351 inches? Is this just a coincidene? The odds are against it especially since this would be below average cylinder sizes considering that a 351 V8 is not really a large displacement to begin with.

Well this engine was the secret project of the guys in Ford's drivetrain research division. It was done by them in thier spare time with a million extra parts lying around. The engine design for a V-10 351 is actually not very new it is just a V-8 4.6 with two more cylinders grafted on. The heads just 00 Cobra R grafted bigger etc.., etc.., If the did a 351W V-8 it would require a brand new block design cause the very thin-walled, long stroke 4.6 block doesn't have it to be a 351cu which by today's standards is big.

Okay I did the math 4.6/8 * 10 and I got 5.75L which is pretty close to 351 inches. I was just surprised that it came out to the same size as a completly different engine. from another era. For example if GM were to come out with a V10 and target the mid 350s in displacement what are the odds that it would be exactly a 350? and not a 347 or 353....

Just surprised

Why the sudden urge for V10's?

It's called power to weight ratio, duh. :screwy: Also, you get more torque, it sounds meaner, and You can say you have a V-10 there.

Why the fuck are you guys even talking about this Mustang anyways? It's never coming out. Motor Trend did an article on this like 7 months ago, saying the V-10 Mustang is a one of a kind, will never see production, and all Mustangs from now on will have a max of 8 cylinders.

By the way, why did they decide to resurrect the worst boss of all? The original Boss 351 was little more than plaint job and a decal slapped on. If they ever started talking about cramming a 429 into a 2006 Mustang and having the battery in the trunk, that might get my attention.

We talk about this Mustang cause it's cool and it was a neat engine that is very pheasable. and although I doubt you'll see it in GT's or Cobras the R model is a consideration for the motor.

If you read what I typed it wasn't this big thing to resurrect the Boss351. It was just some fun some Ford guys had adding 2 cylinders to a 4.6 just happens to make 351 so the name just happenend to work like Destiny. Cramming a 429 into a car these days is useless... you don't need huge cubes to make huge power.
