98 6.5 tur/dies Cut out after 30 secquintology 02-21-2004, 03:33 AM A couple of weeks ago the 'Service throttle soon' light came on whilst driving and the cruise stopped working at the same moment as the light came on. The car accelerated roughly until I stopped and restarted the car and the light went out. Once i restarted the car went fine as if nothing had happened - no light on - all working o.k. Then last night for no apparant reason, after the car started fine i begun driving the car and it cut out and stalled after 30sec, Stop put tranny in park, restart no prob, 30 sec later cut out again. repeated this exercise every 30 sec for 20 mins or so until I finally got home... Today I get in the car and it is if nothing had happened. All fine.. I understand that my model of car has electronic throttle control, is this causing the problem and if so what would be the cost of replacement. Has anyone else had this strange intermittant problem. BTW no warning lights displayed after stalling to indicate an engine problem.. Thx Aussie Suburban Owner. janne 04-25-2004, 04:53 AM I have a suburban 96 1500 6,5td and having same kind of problem. For me the problem started about 1 month ago. First the engine just died during aceleration, I had to stop by the road and when I tried to start, starter was working normally but engine did'nt start. Waited about 30-60sec. and engine started normally, I acelerated and after about about 20-30 sec. it died again. The car parked I had the same problem starting it, but it started again after 20-30sec. Same thing happened 3 times and the next day i drove to a "specialist" and he checked the errorcodes but did'nt find any. He told me that by 90% chanse the problem would be the PMD box, because it will not give errorcodes. Price of PMD box 440€ + 500€ for changing. sounded expensive when not even knowing for sure if this is the problem. after that the car worked normally for about 2 weeks and same problem occoured. And after that again no problems for a while. but you never know when you have to take a break at the roadside. Would appreciate all help I can get. proud Suburban owner in Finland quintology 04-27-2004, 04:44 AM We finally managed to locate the problem. The mechanic replaced the entire fuel pump and the electronic throttle control including all associated computer parts and this solved the problem. Perhaps this solution may fix your problems. We have not had this problem occur again since these parts were replaced. I've seen this problem a few times with the Astros. In each case the problem was a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). It's only about $23-24 USD from the GM dealer, and it take LITERALLY about 3 or 4 minutes to replace. However we do not use Diesel vehicles, so perhaps this won't help. Good luck!
