axle? what is this i hear?j.fuggi 01-02-2002, 08:56 AM ok... this is my first winter with my civic. i notice when my car is cold, it clicks when i turn a bit. my friend who had a bad axle, had this clicking all the time on every corner. i asked him and he said mine was just because it was cold and the lubrication in my axle is just cold so it ticks. is this the case? it stopps making noise after a few minutes of driving. Racing Rice 01-02-2002, 11:27 AM Check the rubber boots on your CV Joints make sure they arent ripped, sounds like it could be a CV Joint going out. brads94accord 01-02-2002, 11:00 PM yeah, its probably a bad cv boot., GScivic7 01-04-2002, 02:57 AM definetely ripped cv boots i had the same problem on my rite axle, so i just went to the junkyard and got another axle and put er in there. only cost like 50 bucks 90CRXZCSi 01-15-2002, 11:55 AM Yea it's probably just the boot being ripped. Go to any parts store and you can pick one up for around $15. :) Dezoris 01-16-2002, 03:02 AM Well, once the boot is ripped, basically the CV joint is un protected, once it loses it grease, it is done for. Clicking is a sign of the actual joint wear. Replacing a CV joint wil cost you about 50-75 per side, if you have over 60k miles replace both sides. Why? Because you will need an alignment post. So if you are hard on your car, you may have to replace the other side soon. Best to do both sides unless you are strapped for cash. It may also be your wheel bearings. The best way to find that out is to, jack up your car, very slowly and while lifting it push the top and the bottom of the wheel. If you hear a clicking or crunch then 90% of the time it is the wheel bearings. Also if you hear a clicking while turning or popping w/o acceleration it is usually a CV joint. Actually see the sticky post this is a good topic :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
