Street Machine 69 Charger!slk320 02-18-2004, 11:07 PM Ok, in the meantime while my CLK DTM is curing up I dedcided to do a project I always wanted to do, a complete modern street machine with modern interior, wheels, suspension, but a classic vintage 60-70's look. I picked a 1969 Charger, not just becuase it was a star of BLADE movies, but because I always loved large Detroit Muscle body :) So here is the kit: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/1_G.sized.jpg I purchased a bunch of accesories from modelcargarage and made some aluminum bits. and went to work on mocking up the chasis first and decided on wheels.. Here is the wheels I am going to use for this project: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/2_G.sized.jpg Played around with some V12 modern engines as well.. here is a BMW V12: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/3_G.sized.jpg But ultimately I have decided to use the vintage 440 magnum motor :sunglasse :iceslolan Next I turned my attention to the interior and flocked the floor and package shelf with silver, grey charcoal flocking. http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/4_G.sized.jpg next installed center console and a white ball shifter with shifting pattern http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/5_G.sized.jpg now the dashboard. My signature keys in the ignition present, photoetched and billet steering wheel and home made steering wheel column. http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/6_G.sized.jpg ignore the decal on the steering wheel, it will be changed. just temporary measurement for size http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/7_G.sized.jpg photoetch pedals: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/8_G.sized.jpg modern race buckets with seatbelt harness. Can someone guess where they are from??? http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/9_G.sized.jpg Engine started out as this: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/charger.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/charger2.sized.jpg turned into this: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/charger3.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/charger4.sized.jpg and finaly into this: http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/9a.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/9b.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/9c.sized.jpg with all the metal in the enigne it feels pretty heavy. still need to do the belt and then we are done ;) so what do you think of this project? drumcat 02-18-2004, 11:26 PM OMG! thats friggin awsome! love the engine im gonna pay a visit to modelcargarage now. cant wait to see this completed  CADguy 02-19-2004, 12:22 AM Very cool project! That engine looks awesome. The flocking is great too. I look forward to watching this progess. Purpura Delujo 02-19-2004, 12:36 AM Bah, that BMW V12 aint got shit on a 440 magnum! Good engine choice in the end ;) sjelic 02-19-2004, 02:20 AM BMW engine with Mercedes wheels in American classic that would be strange combination 675datsun 02-19-2004, 02:49 AM Cool project! This reminds me of the Charger in HOT ROD magazine, it was silver with fat Kinesis wheels and a Viper V-10. http://www.pro-touring.com/featured_cars/Dodge/Matt_Delaney_68_Charger/matt_delaneys_68_charger.htm SO what color will yours be? I'm not feeling those chrome wheels, they look like they belong on a ghetto Benz! Nice engine detail!! I really like the keys in the dash, that's incredible. That console looks good too. Really impressed by the engine  Bloodhound 02-19-2004, 03:11 AM Awesome work, dude, I had a similar Idea a few weeks ago but it looks like you beat me to it. Incredible detail! every inch of it is real to life. I agree to swap the wheels for, maybe something with an open mesh pattern? if you wanted to really emphasize the modernized muscle, you could put 8 throttle bodies on the 440 engine. flying finn 02-19-2004, 04:59 AM looks great but the wheels doesn`t fit.. great engine also.. JBarry 02-19-2004, 09:29 AM Totally awesome! It's the best evah! I really wish I could do that to a model, like my '69 :D Well done. J. Barry z_dutchie 02-19-2004, 09:38 AM looks cool but why do you have 2 open treads? but real cool project dag65 02-19-2004, 04:06 PM Nice stuff, a Viper engine would have been cool also. But that 440 is screamin' , nice attention to detail. But those wheels ummmmmmmm just not feeling those man. Maybe some 20" 5 spokes or something like that, something that says " Muscle car" not " Moms Benz" but thats just my 2 cents. Great work in any case 86_SR5 02-19-2004, 10:34 PM SLK. the engine, great job, i love it. Looks real, but the rims, I dunno... a little too big if you ask me, but that's my opinion. ProSStreet 02-19-2004, 11:33 PM not quite feelin the wheels but everything else is totally awesome. slk320 02-20-2004, 12:16 PM ok ok, I get it, I am changing the rims to Equip 19's. they will tuck into the fenders. Also going ot be using modern drilled disc brakes and full chasis wiring. will post pics tonight or tommorow. remus_nl 02-21-2004, 04:13 AM yeah very cool project! primera man 02-21-2004, 05:06 AM 50/50 on the wheel choice...but i'll make up my mind we i see more of it !! The color and detail painting is absolutely awsome. The only downside I see is you didn't remove the mold lines from the body and exhaust. It may not matter to you, but in a contest, it will. That aside, I DO look forward to seeing it completed. Carl tpliquid 02-24-2004, 02:45 PM kragyyyyyyyy Valentino 02-24-2004, 04:22 PM Greeeaaat job so far !! can't wait to see more  slk320 02-24-2004, 04:45 PM The '69 charger is one of my all time favorite rides, being the first car I rode over 100 mph in when I was 15, right in front of my parents house even. The one you see on the picture has been rubbed out completely. Will post pictures of the finish later. I should have worked a little more with exhaust too, I removed the mold lines from the tubing, but not from the resonators, I won't forget about that next time.. The more I build the more I learn right?? Plus AF is a great help! slk320 02-24-2004, 04:46 PM The '69 charger is one of my all time favorite rides, being the first car I rode over 100 mph in when I was 15, right in front of my parents house even. I also shaved the door handles, door locks and rear view mirror posts.. stay tuned for a brand new hood too ;) slk320 02-24-2004, 05:12 PM ok, so I really suck at taking photos, but believe me in real life the finish is almost flawless... very even, no orange peel...shiny :) so after all my excuses here is the photos. By the way, I also painted the grille to match body color, but if you see wholes where the headlights should be, its because I will be using a photoetched set as replacement, plus a surprise.. just think original Charger design ;) http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/1_G_002.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/2_G_002.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/3_G_002.sized.jpg http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album53/4_G_002.sized.jpg comments are always welcomed, positive or negative..please! I really dig gun metal on Chargers, those modern wheels actually look good on it too, I'd never think about modern wheels on a Charger. Undercarriage is looking great too, nice colour contrasts on it. Only one thing I can say is I think the small lip on the Chargers hiney looks better then a spolier, of any kind. You really should get some outside photos, please try to do some outside photos when you finish this! Merkava 02-24-2004, 08:09 PM Good God! That is amazing work. I wouldn't change a thing. 675datsun 02-24-2004, 10:50 PM SLK320, I agree, the spoiler is very appropriate...but I still can't get over the chassis detail!
