Sticking in Sport(overdrive) mode w/ slow exceleration??sheriff_bob 02-16-2004, 04:00 PM This morning when I started driving my 91' Accord I noticed that my acceleration was extremely slow when I was in D4 (automatic). But when I would put it in first and drive everything was okay the acceleration was normal. I checked the transmission fluid and it was at a normal level. The one thing I did notice though was that the Sport(overdrive) mode was stuck and pressing the button would not turn it off. I'm really glad I found these forums and I really hope you guys can help me out. Tim Igovert500 02-17-2004, 12:27 PM Sport shift is a joke, in my 90 accord, i left it on all the time, it didn't make a difference in my humble opinion. I took it to the track, and did a few runs with it on, and a few without it. It made no difference. As for your problem, when you said you put it in first. Did you mean that you just left it in first and drove the whole way like that, or that you shifted up to fourth as your rpms went up? sheriff_bob 02-17-2004, 10:21 PM The purpose of sport is to hold the gear for a longer amount of time. It's basically overdrive. The reason I believe it has something to do with that is because when its in first gear overdrive dosnt have any effect its a multi-gear function. Also in second gear it dosnt have any problems. But when I put it in D3 or D4 the acceleration is extremely slow. Almost as if the sport(overdrive) is not allowing the car to shift at the correct time. Possibly a computer problem ??? Igovert500 02-18-2004, 02:09 PM Yeah, that's the purpose of the sports shift, I just meant that on my car it either didn't work(other then the green light going on in the dash) or it simply didn't make that much of a difference. In regards to your problem, I havn't ever heard of anything like that. Your reasoning seems logical...I'll look around and see if I can find anything. Also, if you have a certified honda mechanic in the area, you might want to give them a call and see if they have ever had a similar problem. Igovert500 02-18-2004, 02:22 PM Go back a page or 2 in the posts and there is another post labeled "stuck in sports shift" THey have a similar problem and mention a recall on a part that might solve your problem. Also, you may want to take it to AutoZone, I believe they check out your ECU error codes for free and that might also help lead you to the source of the problem. Perhaps a speed sensor or something. But I would check out that link first, because most likely you have a similar problem. The good news is the guy said that it was under 300 for parts and labor to repair, so at least its not your tranny. Also, one last thing, when's the last time you flushed your tranny? That probably wont be the answer, but might help. sheriff_bob 02-18-2004, 04:03 PM Hey thanks alot for the help, yeah I'm gonna try to call today and see if I can get an answer from someone. Seems like it is some sort of sensor issue. There has been alot of rain and snow lately so something might have gotten shorted vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
