hey everyone! I just bought a 99 G20 today!

Here's what i bought:

99 G20, leather, moonroof, all the standard luxury stuff
Red exterior with tan interior
automatic
23,718 miles
$16,800

?did i get a good price?


I love it, but it has one flaw which I'm sure we all know about...acceleration! I couldn't find any 5-speed G20s so I just decided to go for the automatic. Man, it's slow...what do you guys do to make this thing move?! Aside from that I'm MORE than happy with the car. It's beautiful and so comforting to drive. It's a totally different feel from my old car (Toyota MR2).

forgot something...I wanted to get a personalized license plate but i can't think of anything that sounds cool.....any ideas?

speaker sizes for the 99 are 6 1/2 front and back.

Well, to get the car to go, I would do a manual swap. Just get yourself a cold air intake, exhaust, and advance your timing to 19 degrees.

How much power will you need to satisfy your hunger?

More like how much money do you have? That's going to determine how far you can go to feed your hunger. Your acceleration problem is the AT.

I doubt that the CAI or exhaust would, but I'm pretty sure that advancing your timing would.

you chose the wrong platform if you want more acceleration from this car. unless you do extensive modifications (forced induction) youre not gonna get much. as someone said, its the tranny thats making the ride too smooth for some. the gears a too tall. anyone know how to change the final gear? that will help a lot.

hmmmm... Yeah I kinda figured the automatic was the major problem. Especially when I saw some of your burnout pics...oh no. That's okay though. I still love my G20 for everything else that it has to offer.

I guess the only thing that'll help is a turbo or supercharger. Do they make a turbo? Or do you guys just get the SR20DET? How bout a supercharger?

NOS....I like it...that'll definitely void the warrenty. And I think the stock SR20DE motor 'll take it...that thing is strong...don't worry I wouldn't put NOS on a stock motor any day.

I don't know about the supercharger, but JWT makes a turbo for the 99 G20. Should be easy to find on their website. As for the license plate, how many letters can you fit on the NJ plate? Here in Texas, we can only have six letters. I was trying to decide between:

On the acceleration issue, yep mine is auto also :( Advance the timing and get the 2 piece UR Pully set, made a world of difference for me...OR...get the Hotshot CAI and/or JWT POP.

In the lisence plate ... man thats your call....

Try Jim Wolf (www.jimwolftechnology.com) S3 or S4 cams. They will give you at least 10 more horsepower at the wheels. The '99s have crappy stock cams (worst of any G20), these will definitely improve hp. My '99 gained about 12 with the cams only (it is a manual though). Best part is your warranty is still good, a dealer will have a hard time proving you swapped out your cams without doing extensive measurements and testing.
Also, if you do other mods like intakes, exhaust, headers, etc the cams can stay.
Just remember, don't advance timing with these cams.

Dont you have to have your ECU reprogramed with these cams as well?? Just curious, Id like a set myself.

Hmmm...sounds good. How easy is it to tear down these motors? My Mr2's 1.6L 4-cyl was fairly simple...I'm guessing the SR20DE is just as easy?

Getting my S3 cams soon and will post pictures ....

The S3s will run fine with the stock ECU. I don't know about the S4s.
JWT does offer an S3 ECU program that is good for a few more hp.

I asked my brother [Honda Guy] about the advancement of the timing on my car. He said that sometimes the computer will know something is wrong and retard the engine to compensate. Will my 99 G20 ECU do this? Thanks
