Dropping the hammer on a back country road once in a while is a totally different animal when compared to stoplight to stoplight stuff in the city. When you're getting in the throttle down on Route 10 between the cornfields of Bucyrus, you're breaking the speed limit and risking maybe stuffing your car into a drainage ditch, but you're generally safe from endangering other people or property more expensive than a chain link fence or a few dozen stalks of corn. But when you take it to Main Street in front of the Tasty Freeze, that's when you're taking an unnecessary and foolish risk that endangers the lives and property of people who aren't mindfully involved.

It's the basic rule, if you're aware of the consequences and you take the risk anyways then you're responsible for the outcome. If you had no involvement in what happened but became involved, you're an innocent bystander; also known as a victim.

If you can, find your local chapter of the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) or SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and join them. You'll be able to compete in local autocross events and track days at SCCA or NASA sanctioned tracks across the nation. It's a far better way to be involved with racing.
