I have a 97 Grand Am GT. I've had it sitting in my driveway back home for the last year while I've been away at school. Well, I tried to start it the other day and was unsuccessful. I replaced the battery and still, the car will not start. I've also tried jumping the car and the same thing will happen.

What happens is that I'll turn the key and the engine will start up and die immediately (like a second). I thought perhaps the gas was bad in the tank (there was about a gallon or two left in the tank over the years time), so I put about 8 gallons of gas in the car, along with some fuel system cleaner and some HEET. The same results continue to occur.

I've tried everything I can think of, being a poor college student I'd rather not have to get the car towed to a mechanic. Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Try changing the fuel filter it may be gummed up.
check oil level also

also might want to try giving a little gas while cranking--not too much so as you would flood the engine, but just enough to give it a bit of a load to try to force a blockage.

I'd definately have a look at the fuel filter as well.

If you put your foot on the gass pedel and give it WOT(wide open throttle) then try starting it, This will not Flood it, it only lets more AIR into the engine, so if it is flooded it will start. You also might have some sticky Injectors.
