Hi all! I'm new to the site and I hope someone has some info for me. Since buying my gtp last July, i hear a "growling/grinding" noise coming from front-left of car. Noise only happens when: a. after start up and initial movement. b. after anti-lock brakes are activated and released. c. when traction control is activated.

The dealership service manager tells me this noise is the ABS pump checking and re-setting itself and that it is normal. Is anyone experiencing anything similar? Thanks for your help.

I have a 93 Z-34, a 99 S-10 Blazer and a 98 GTP. None of them make funy pump noises unless of course they are under heavy braking. Do not see why the 2004 ABS system should be that different

Mine does exactly the same thing. I just bought it and it's been buzzing everytime I start the car and reach about 5mph forward (doesn't do it in reverse). It'll also make the noise when just after the ABS kicks in on a hard stop. I haven't tried switching the traction control off.
I have the same model (2004 GTP w/ Comp-G)
I was wondering if this was normal too. The dealer is looking into it. I'll forward any information they get me.

Thanks for the info. I'm being told it's totally normal. It might be normal, but it's really annoying. Looking forward to any news you might have.

Problem solved!

It is so quiet now, that if I never heard it before, I wouldn't know it was even making any noise at all. (It can barely be heard now.)

To paraphrase the service department:
A noise is normal. It is the ABS initializing. Mine was just much louder than normal and no other car on their lot made this noise. The pump is mounted on four rubber pads to isolate any vibratory noise. After two days in the shop, they isolated the source. A brake line was contacting the pump, causing the buzzing sound when the pump initialized. They repositioned the brake line and the noise is now gone.

Warranty fix= $0

Hope this helps!

I just got my 2004 COMP G about two weeks ago. I noticed it doing the same thing. I just assumed it was normal.

My 2004 COMPG does the same thing. I just thought it was normal.

I have a 2000 GTP and thanks to this thread I have found the problem solver here. My car has been to a couple different dealerships with no luck. Thanks to vt102 my problem is solved!!! :grinno: :grinno: There were two of the brake lines that were going into the pump and they were touching each other causing this horrible buzzing noise ( just the same as described above) My husband took about 10 minutes in the garage repositioning them and that was the problem. Thanks again VT102!!!!
