No, it does not have v-tec. It does have VTEC however :p. So does the EX for the 5th gen models.

well im sure you can get a local v-tech and throw it in there with a little electrical work...that is if you wanted a cordless phone in your car, but yeah they come with vtec's...

no, they don't. They're sohc non-vtec engines with around 120hp.

GScivic7
02-09-2004, 02:05 PM
uh yah it does have VTEC. The 5th gen Si's had the D16Z6 engine in them, same as the EX, which are VTEC engines.

whoop, thinking 91 Si. Yeah the 5g does, but it still only has around 120hp. SOHC vtec sucks, you can't even hardly hear or feel it.

Come to Benton,TN. Ride in my 99' EX. You'll hear and feel it no problem. Especially in 1st-3rd gear. Not trying to dis, but you can hear my vtec engage easily, and if your in one of the previously mentioned gears at round 6000rpms, your body will slam into the seat(a little bit anyway :p ) when I slam the pedal to the floor.

The point we're making is vtec on a SOHC to a certain extent doesn't compare to vtec on a DOHC...most people think vtec is this great thing that shoots you back into your seat like a rocket...that's simply not true...a turbo'd car may do that once boost kicks in, but vtec won't.

just wandering which models have DOCH V-TECH are they the newer ones and is it worth saving for one of them or spending the extra money on go-fast bits for the 5th gen

No motor comes with V-TECH, V-TECH is a phone company. The variable valve timing system Honda motors use is called VTEC. In the US, the Del Sol VTEC, Integra GSR, and 99-00 Civic Si all came with DOHC VTEC engines. These motors should go in your 5th gen without too much hassle. If your gutsy you can try to stick a K20 in there. And it is way more worth it to build a DOHC motor than SOHC. B16A and B18C motors are all DOHC VTEC.

thanx bro, i think ill have to stick with the 5th gen civic though the 99-00 civic si will be a bit to pricy for me

GScivic7 , you forget the Integra Type-R as a USDM Honda/Acura that came with DOHC Vtec...lol

Anyways, 2000PSI...as GScivic7 said, these motors we listed should go in your 5th gen without too much hassle. He is also correct, you can know try and stick a K20A or a K24 in there now, if you are gutsy, as @ the recent SEMA show Hasport released mounts to put the K-series motors into the 5th and 6th gen chassis. That's is a bit more work, the B-series will drop right in there though, and cost less than if you tried to save up and buy an SI or something.

DOH!!!! lol...IMO though, that is one engine that is not worth the cost to swap in.

Vti? I checked your profile, and you are from Australia? There in no Vti over here...that being said look on the engine block of the car, it should be stamped right on the block what type of motor it is. If my memory serves me, it's a sohc d-series though, I am pretty sure.

it definatly said it was vti on the back it was a lil silver sticker

Pop the hood and check the engine block. I know a Vti exsits, just not in the over here in the US. I know there is a Vti in australia and japan, though I can't remember the code. For some reason, I am thinking it's a sohc-d-series vtec motor, though I could be wrong (it's been awhile since I read about it). Go check out the car again, pop the hood, the engine code should be stamped on the block between the motor and the transmission. I hope this helps a bit.

Engines and tirm levels are not the same from country to country. For example, in the US, the Civic SI in 99-00 had a B16A in it. In Canada though, the SI is our EX model, a SOHC D-series Vtec motor. The SiR is the Civic that would be on par with our 99-00 SI. The 92-95 Si over here was a D16Z6 powered Hatch (Kind of an EX hatch). Now, as for the Vti. my memory served wrong, I got some things mixed up. I only have info about the Vti in Europe, so I am not 100% sure in that regard it is the exact same down in Australia where you are. Here is what I found though...The Vti over there has a B16A. It sounds to me like the Vti where you live could be similer to the Vti in Europe and the SiR in Canada, B16A powered. Here's the info I found about the Vti in Europe.

89-92 1.6i/Vti: Europe: B16A1
96+ Vti: Europe: B16A
89-92 CRX 1.6i/Vti: Europe:B16A1
94-97 Del Sol Vtec/Vti-T: USA/Europe: B16A3

I hope that helps a bit. If I find anything else out I will post it.
