i changed the factory single cd rds unit to the upgraded factory 6 disc unit. everything appears to work fine except i have no back lighting on any of the control buttons. when first turned on it flashes a (cal error) message across the screen. does anyone know if this is something that gm service can correct. it's impossible to operate at night with no button lighting.

Did they warrant the work? If so, let them worry about it.

I have the exact same problem. I had a 1 disc in my Envoy and replaced it with a 6-disc and it works great, I get all LCD (or LED) lighting but no lights for my buttons.

Did you ever figure out how to fix the problem?

i still have not found an answer. i am planning to take it to the gm dealer and see if their tech-2 computer scanner can correct the problem. if you find anything out let me know.

im a mech at a gm dealer. you need to bring them to the dealer an it needs to be programmed in your truck. this may not work if years of radio are to different, ive came across a older radio an i could not program it it was to old, but there is a good chance it can be programmed to your truck

thanks for the info. i thought they might be able to do it with the tech 2. i will have to get it to the dealer when the weather gets a little nicer.
