'85 300zx, 138k, recent plugs, wires, fuel filter,cap/rotor,replaced all vacuum lines, checked electrical connections, within last year: replaced fuel pump, injectors, eng temp sensor, cleaned the idle circuit:

The car's starter cranks fine but is a bitch to start when cold. Once it warms up in a minute or so, starts right away......and it idles good........otherwise, the car runs great. Any ideas??.....the car has good fuel pressure (have gauge permanently mounted) and the air regulator appears to operate OK.

Any ideas out there what the problem might be????

I am having almost the same identical problem you are but I have a Z32. 1990 2+2 n/a. Mine hardlyu will ever start when it is cold outside and once it does it is perfectly fine after it gets warmed up. If you find out what the problem was please contact me somehow. THank You

Start with a compression test

Perhaps the water temp sensor isn't working? It tells the computer the present temperature of the engine, but if it transmits a warm engine message when the engine is actually cold, then the brain will send a lean fuel mixture message when you really need a richer mixture during cold start-up. They don't cost much. I would try that.

Hey i was reading another forum. I forgot which one but anyways it said that the 1990 300z's have a faulty ignition system power unit and supposedly nissan is supposed to replace it for free. And this causes starting problems like the ones i listed above. What do you guys think? could it be this?

I took it to my nissan dealer and he says " low compression on 4 cylinders." Once it starts it runs fine. I am faced with the following:
Should I put in a valve job for $2500. or new engine with 12month 12k warranty for $5000.Does anyone reccomend any of the remanufactured engine companies out there? looking for a little help. TIA
