well i was talkin to a friend of mine and he brought up a good point, its a PICKUP TRUCK, there is absolutly no weight in teh back, so if he gets goin like 70 down a hilly twisty road (which is all i have by me) his rear wheels will break loose and he'll go flying, so if anything, it should be entertaining, lol

Yeah, he couldn't even touch you in the corners. But straight-line would be interesting since he's got a V6. Take him to 120+ mph (somewhere desolate) and see if he can keep up. ;)

i kno thats wut i meant well said scatch cause the truck cant hit more than 125. neons can bang like 130

Neons take forever in last gear in an auto. It makes me sad. I would get demolished on a roll on. Im gonna race this kid in school with a Probe, its a 2.0 4 cly too...and automatic. I almost guarantee I will win. He does have a custom muffler of some kind and its about the size of a bazooka...so when I get catback Im gonna tell him to race me. It should be funny. He weighs more than me and so does his car.

well im part of the neon forum but i have owned both a neon and an s-10, the only way the s-10 will spin-out on dry pavment is if he has a posi-trac rear end, is it a 2.8 or a 4.3, if he has a 4.3 id say hes got you for sure, and if its lowered he'll be taking you around the twisties too, i love neons and i know how fast they can be, but low end they dont seem to have much, but get into the highway speeds and neons own .......good luck

I own a 2000 Neon with 2.0 and 3 sp. auto along with a 2001 Chevy S-10 with the 4.3 and auto. The 4.3 will "easily" get up to 80 mph before the Neon will. Fact is your talking more horsepower with the S-10. The 4.3 Vortex engine is very, very, smooth. It's the first Chevy that I have owned and I was very impressed with the engine and the shifting of the auto trans. That said the Neon is still the better car to drive. The seats are top notch, braking is far superior, and there is no question when it comes to handleing. But as far as a small pickup goes, the S-10 is pretty darn good. But don't sweat it,i'm still a Mopar guy. I put my money where my mouth is. I'm a rural mailcarrier with a 100 mile-400 stop route and have been driving Dodge Spirits for 12 years now. I own 3 of them(92-93-95) all with the Chrysler 3-speed auto trans. This transmission is hands down the "best" transmission ever made. This was one big reason we bought our Neon. Put on a tranny cooler and it will last forever. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the S-10 will hold up as well.

Not to say that you're wrong, but put a MTX, DOHC or Magnum-powered Neon against your S-10, and I think things would be much different.

As far as reliability goes for your S-10, about the only major thing I MIGHT worry about is the tranny, but only because I don't know how good it is. That 4.3L should last 200K at least.

Our local dealer has the one SRT-4 for sale. I don't dare test drive it because all I would do is want to buy it. For $20,000 it can't be beat. I have yet to drive a Neon with the manual transmission and everyone says they are much quicker. Before we bought our Neon we test drove other cars but there was no comparison. We plan on keeping the Neon for many, many years. Like I said I like it because it has the good ole 3-speed auto. All my Spirits have at least 160,000 miles on them with there original transmissions. Like I said i'm keeping my fingers crossed with the S-10. With my job I have to be very "practical" with my vehicle choice. I need vehicles that are very reliable. This is why the Spirit to me is the best car made. Everything about it is very reliable. But when the day comes that I'm not hauling mail for a living,I will have the SRT-4 in my driveway. It may be a used one but it will be there.

I wish you luck with all your cars, as I know the mail carrier gig is not the best paying or safest job out there.

My Spirit is in the same ballpark as alot of neons as far as being able to surprise people. It's not a 2.2 or 2.5 Turbo Spirit (if it was i'd have it decked out with some turbo parts) but it is the 3.0 V6 model. While it's not a rocket ship and stuff, it's got some pretty spiffy giddy-up. A decent-sized V6 in any 2900-pound car will roll on some people. I love racing Civics. I raced this one new model Civic Coupe about a week ago. He had a manual and some type of custom muffler but i couldn't tell, it was sleeper-like, looked stock, even down to the dinky little exhaust tip. He had some aluminum rims on it and the altezza lights and a manual tranny (which he didn't know how to drive for shit) and thought he was bad. Raced him twice from a roll and a stop and blazed right by him with ease both times. Hahaha it was funny too, after i took him he stuck his head out the window and was still so high on himself and his car that he said "that thing got a V8?" I was SOOO tempted to say "yeah, it's got a HEMI" but instead i just said no, it's a 3.0L V6 stock with an auto tranny and a 2 liter bottle of soda in the back that's bigger than your engine. haha. 3 liters of displacement and two extra cylinders will do that for ya ;) Of course it would be much quicker had i swapped in a 5-speed instead of the 4-speed auto which kinda bogs the car down a little. A 5-speed V6 Spirit would be some serious rice-killer. Something i soon plan to make a reality.

I'm going out on a limb here by saying i could take a regular Neon, any transmission, even though i haven't actually raced one yet. But i raced a late model (96 or older) 4.3L Sonoma once, when my engine was running really bad due to some crossed wires and a fuel system that was flooding the car something aweful and giving it some bad running characteristics (my hydrocarbon readings on a diagnostic computer read well over 1300) and from the start we were dead even and i pulled away form him once we hit about 45. Yeah, i'm proud of my granny car. 4 doors and all, when it comes down to it, it still romps all the way up to 120 (where it shuts off, stupid mofo) and i bet if it didn't shut off i could pull it up to 130-135 before the overdrive just poops out.

p.s.--Oh yeah, riceburnersuck, i raced a Chevy Silverado reg. cab 2wd 350 one night (with my car running in tip-top shape also) and took him by a car length at 80 ;)

Race a Dodge SRT4 in that Truck you got.. Have fun losing.. Think your V-8 is bad. These rice burners will hurt your feelings.. Try a Subaru Wrx STI/Lancer Evolution/Dodge SRT4.. You wont last to 3rd gear. All 4 cylinders and all Will smoke you.
