Turbo and smog check

I am thinking about getting a turbo for my 96 GSR. I live in Cali so one of my main concerns is going to get a smog check with the turbo every other year.

I am looking at the drag turbo kit, or perhaps even putting one together myself however, what about smog checks? I know a custom kit or even a drag kit is not carb legal so that means if I put the kit on my car and take it to get smoged it's not going to pass right? If that is the case, how the hell do you guys with your own kits, or non carb legal kits, pass the smog test?

Because of that, I was thinking about getting the greddy kit just because it is carb legal even though its going to be so much more expensive.

So I guess what I am asking here is what do you guys with the non carb legal kits do to pass the smog? Or should I just go for the greddy kit so I won't have to deal with it?

I would just go with a kit like Greddy that is carb legal. Most people get away with it because they either know someone at a test station or they pay the people at the test station to pass it. ;)
