White Smoke from Exhaust and Engine - 91 ShadowMistyk_1313 02-03-2004, 02:20 PM I don't know what the problem is....91 Dodge Shadow...The smoke only started after I refilled the rad/reservior with antifreeze...It must have been pretty dry as I almost used a whole jug. The car was driving a little shaky before that (oil level was low and pretty much corrected the problem with a quart or so) The smoke out the exhaust reminds me of those planes you see that leave the trail of smoke behind them. The smoke is thick enough to look like a fog behind me. It does not come out of the hood in billows until I open the hood and seems to be coming from right near the wiper fluid reservoir (by the windshield). The temp gauge also goes right to high after about 5 minutes of driving. (This was before the smoke issue) I don't understand as the temp outside is sub-zero. Any ideas would be appreciated. Polygon 02-03-2004, 02:55 PM You have a coolant leak. Coolant is getting into your engine and the engine burning the coolant causes the white smoke. This can be caused by something as simple as a bad head gasket or something as serious as a cracked head or even block. Take the car in ASAP and get it checked out before you do more damage. Mistyk_1313 02-03-2004, 03:51 PM Thanks for the info...any idea what a Head Gasket should cost me...don't wanna get hosed at the mechanic.... Polygon 02-03-2004, 08:36 PM I sent you a PM. DaYtOnAt2 04-06-2004, 08:26 PM ALLDATA calls for 3.1 hours and add 0.4 where A/C interferes as for parts good luck probably 50 for the upper gasket kit 20 for the new head bolts and maybe 20 or so for the new exhaust donut cause no one in their right mind would attempt removing the manifolds from the head on a 91...could also be the cause of the oil leak too but polygon's right you probably already warped the head or have a cracked block too... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
