I rolled down the driver's door window and it won't roll back up. There is no clicking or any other signs that the motor is getting power. Any suggestions? Its been cold the last few weeks but the car has been garaged so there's no ice inside the door. Much thanks for any suggestions! 1998 Camry LE with 75K miles.

I take it that the other windows operate.Looks like the best way to find out is to remove the door panel and get a look inside.

yup, most likely the motor/regulator assembly.

Yes, Joe, the other windows DO operate. Do you know of anything tricky about getting the door apart or is it just a standard door. Thanks very much.

What is the motor/regulator? Is it one unit or 2 separate units, and where are they located? Thanks very much.

um i don't think dissasimbling the door will help you much unless your glass just slipped out of place which is unlikely, i think your belt has either broken due to to much weight on the glass as it trys to go up or it is just getting old and needs a replacement i had to deal with that on a 2.2 acura CL i opend it up and to my surprise opening the door didnt do much took it to the dealer bought a new set and got it fixed

it sounds much more like the regulator (motor) than a fuse, unless you can hear noise like it's trying to go up and down.

If your 98 is like our 93, it does not have a belt, it's all hard metal moving it up and down. If you take off the door panel you will see the regulator... and if you can change your oil you'll be able to replace this. Don't get screwed by a dealer.

We paid $65 for a used regulator at a junk yard. let me know if you have any further questions.

I'll take a look at it. Thanks very much.

I'd say regulator as well, although it could just be a bad connection to the regulator. The regulators do not have belts, the have big gears that push the window glass back and forth in the door. They aren't very hard to access/replace, and it don't take too long to do. The door panel is removable with ease, only a few screws and a couple of retainer clips that keep it on, and you're on your way. The only thing is this, you'll have to completely remove the glass in order to replace the regulator. But it shouldn't be too hard if you know what you're doing.

I'd say yotatechie04 summed it up pretty good-let us know how it goes.

I'd honestly have to say that's the first time Joe's actually agreed with me, but thanks Joe! Anyways man, let us all know how it goes, I think my regulator is starting to go bad in my passenger front door too, which really sucks because it's been getting down in the one digit temps here lately.

It's working...for now. I took the door apart and then tested it before I started taking the motor out and wouldn't you know it the thing started working again and haven't had any problems all week. I called the dealer and they said to open the door, hold the switch in the 'UP' position and then slam the door...if the window starts to roll up then it is probobly the motor is going bad. I tried that several dozen times and could only repeat the failure once so I'm taking my chances with it until Spring. Ahh, Spring...sounds really good to me! Will be thinking warm thoughts until then. Thank you to all who responded...the info was really helpful.

OK sorry for the subject, but it did happen again. It turned out to be a little box in the driver door just forward of the door handle. I think this is the regulator. $60 at the local resale dealer (a.k.a. junk yard) and this fixed the problem. The motors all work fine.
