Painting vinyl with fusion

Hey I just painted myentire door panel with Krylon Fusion

I took the two pieces apart sanded a bit, yada yada yada, painted both the plastic part and the vinyl section with Krylon Fusion. Now I want to make it a little bit more scratch resistant. What clear coat would I need for this? Remember I have to clear coat vinyl as well as plastic. Thanks guys.

Well I'm fed up with this paint that is supposed to do stuff and it doesn't...Whenever I put the clear coat on the krylon fusion it sort of ate the fusion off...there's like spots now...I don't know if maybe I did something wrong but I've followed every tutorial thing I've seen.

SO what I think I'm going to do is begin trying to fiberglass everything

the only thing about glassing I'm worrying about is the glare. Don't know how I could get around that.

I might look into getting everything rewrapped in a black vinyl...don't know though

opinions?

I'd love to help you man but all I've done is paint the plastic parts in my car, black. Did you paint your vinyl within the recommended heat range (I think you gotta paint shit when it's like 75º or warmer, and not humid)? Did you do it in thin coats with a lot of layers? Clearcoat shouldn't eat paint :screwy:.. You gotta put that on in thin coats too. As far as prepping paint for clearcoat, I've never done anything.. just sprayed it on top of the paint. Sorry I'm not much of a spraycan guy, more of a wrench-turner.

ya i had that happen to me too, that means u either were spraying to close or put on to thick a coat or the air was humid, the best way would have been to test panel to find the best distance and arm speed, the best tip would to be stay as far away and still have paint accumulate on the object, but u know now that ive done that paint thing, i have decided that i want to do something different. so im just going to leave what i did, and when i go to finish my interior im going to have every panel part in my car wrapped in black vinyl

and the whole point of fiberglass is to give a super smooth shiny look, if u dont want shine i would try a flat color, with very little clear coat, or maybe even none at all

either way, be sure to post pics of what u did, so i can see how it turned out:smile:
