1 show off and 1 race. vr4 vs mustang gt 5.0youngvr4 01-26-2004, 08:05 AM well on friday on my way to work i see this mx-6 with a exhaust on it, typical for my area i just follow behind. but sometimes i get to thinkin back when i had my non turbo talon and would get exited seeing a supra or vr4 or rx7 fly by me, i loved to see the speed of what i thought i would never have. so anyway i decided to hit it and go around funny enough at full throttle the mx-6 try's to keep up, so i left it in neutral for about 3 seconds just coasting on the side of him while he's at full punch and then i throw it in 3rd gear i shot of like a blue angel. farther down the freeway they pull up to me and give me a thumbs up and honks there horn. (kinda made me feel good) :) ok for the real race, i was in the turning lane going left at a light and a older mustang maybe 91 the 5.0 versions, was growling next to me going straight, this stang was not stock, that was obvious from the sound, so when his light turns green i go follow, i'm on his tail like the teeth of a dizzy dog. he's not flooring it but he might at any time so i stay at 5000rpm's in second. blah blah blah finally we merge on the freeway and he punches it i follow right behind punching it. 1st gear i'm not gaining at all 2nd gear i'm not gaining at all 3rd gear i started gaining on him fast and slowly but surely i past him up at around 110mph. i kept it at full throttle until it was certain i won shifted in to 4th at around 6000rpm 10 before redline since i was pretty sure the race was over, and at about 120-125 i let off. -Josh- 01-26-2004, 08:58 AM Sounds like an adrenaline pumping race, Congrats on the kill. That was nice of you to show off your car to that poor guy   Chavez408 01-26-2004, 09:36 AM good kill  TatII 01-26-2004, 09:49 AM how can you tell that the 302 was modded? i mean i even ask the mustang guys in my school and they all agree with me. they all sound the freaking same. modded or not. lolz the only mustang engine that sounds distinct is the cobras from last gen with the slightly rounder body. and of course the SVT cobra R engine or the super charged cobras. but all the 302's sounds identical modded or not. mynismo 01-26-2004, 12:07 PM :iamwithst 1QUICK2 01-26-2004, 12:43 PM EVERY modded mustang has an X or H pipe making them sound identical. Only super or turbocharged sound different. The newer 4 valves sound very raspy, its pretty nasty. My friend has on 01 S31 Saleen, and it sounds hanous. Good kill though. I do the same fly-bye's on the crappier cars as well. You get every ricers attention when the hear a BOV. I just put my new turbo on with a T04E compressor w/ 4" inlet. It sound like a F'n plane is going bye when I pass someone it whisles so loud. youngvr4 01-26-2004, 04:12 PM hmm thats wierd, it sounded more rumbly then most stangs i've heard maybe i'm just tripin maybe they all sound nice like that, cause even my friend who knows jack about cars said hey that car sounds like its fast. maybe i'm just tripin like i said i guess they all sound sweet like that. YogsVR4 01-26-2004, 04:37 PM Nice runs :iceslolan That first run was a mismatch - no picking on the little guys :p GTStang 01-26-2004, 05:04 PM Well there is a large sound difference between a stang with just an exhuast and some real mods on it. youngvr4 01-26-2004, 05:43 PM how fast do they run stock- the fox body? 2000LS1Z28 01-26-2004, 06:22 PM Good kill. A stock fox body stang will run mid to high 14's w/ a good driver (Don't believe the hype about the 13 sec. 5.0, it's bunk). fatninja19 01-27-2004, 01:38 AM Well there is a large sound difference between a stang with just an exhuast and some real mods on it. Very true.. But it really takes a person who knows their 302's to tell because its obvious some times more than others. For instance, I know of a 302 that shakes the car left to right as it tries to idle.. no doubt that motor is modded up the wazoo. But my 5.0 can sound like it has a cam when it idles at around 700rpm.. especially with the turn downs to an unfamiliar ear. HiFlow5 0 01-27-2004, 08:25 AM A modded 5.0 will without a doubt sound different then a 5.0 with just exhaust. That's a fact, and from personal experience. When I did my cam and intake, there was a dramatic difference, not just in the lumpy idle, but it was deeper and had more of a growl. Then after I added heads to the set up, the sound changed again, much more aggressive, esp with a cam in there. Of course I have become accustomed to the exact sound of my car, but when I hear a fairly stock 5.0 with exhaust, I can sure as hell tell the sound of an unmolested motor. Good kill. A stock fox body stang will run mid to high 14's w/ a good driver (Don't believe the hype about the 13 sec. 5.0, it's bunk). What are you talking about???? Although you are right on about the "typical" stock 1/4 mile times, but it's still very possible for a stock motored 5.0 to break into the 13's, esp if it's a coupe. That too is a fact and not a guess. All in all, I don't see a need to race to speeds over 110 mph on the street or freeway. That's just stupid IMHO, sorry no "way da go" from me. Save it for the track! 1QUICK2 01-27-2004, 11:34 AM That is very true. If you put a huge cam in a 5.0 it makes it way more lopey, and any time your pushing more exhaust it changes the sound. But, to people who arent really mustang enthusiasts they do sound the same. I agree with the whole over 110 mph, but, this is the street racing forum, and there is way more to two cars racing than a second and/or third gear pull and let off. syr74 01-27-2004, 03:38 PM A stock 87 or 88 LX coupe with the stick can run thirteens all day. I never have understod the people who seem to think there is no differnce between a loaded 91 GT automatic and a stripped 5 speed 87 LX. BTW, the 87 and 88 5.0 liter cars were a tad faster bone stock than the 89-93 cars due to slightly different cam specs. Also the less restrictive stock set-up of SD vs that tiny stock MAF makes a nice difference on a stock 5.0. Hence why SD has recently been banned in stock NMRA calsses. Good point. I was just going to say that, but you beat me too it. GTStang 01-27-2004, 09:47 PM Good point. I was just going to say that, but you beat me too it. Sure you were....... :smokin: 2000LS1Z28 01-27-2004, 10:05 PM Sure the 5.0's run 13's, sure :p fatninja19 01-27-2004, 11:14 PM Good point. I was just going to say that, but you beat me too it. I was about to as well!!!.. .... ....... ok fine... maybe not. dammit, you caught me. HiFlow5 0 01-28-2004, 07:20 AM Sure the 5.0's run 13's, sure :p You will see soon enough. hehe........ syr74 01-29-2004, 06:55 PM Sure the 5.0's run 13's, sure :p Yep, same way stock LS1 f-bodies run 12's. ;) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
