axle assemblysumfey 01-24-2004, 05:08 PM I'm attempting to replace a cv boot on the drivers side axle on a 93 toy camry v6 xle. Is there a trick to getting the outer joint off the shaft. There was a c-clip that was removed but it still wont come off. Whats the trick? yotatechie04 01-25-2004, 12:48 PM All right, I was stuck having to replace the boots on both sides of mine not too long ago, actually just before Winter set in. After you've removed the snap-ring off the axleshaft, you'll need to take a hammer and a brass punch and pound that sucker in the groove until it comes off, making sure that you don't damage the splines on the axleshaft or anything. Or, you could do it the way most people do, take a small wheel puller and jimmy it into the groove between the joint and the shaft and pull it off that way. Either way, I hope it works for you. It's a difficult job, took me three hours to do both sides on mine. Joe W 01-25-2004, 05:23 PM For the next one that goes you might consider replacing the whole axle with a rebuilt unit. It's very cost effective and alot less hassle. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
