How to change belts?????Anyone?

Started my car this mornin' and she squeeled like a sound effect in a horror movie. I wanted to know if anyone knows how to change these belts. Is it a home mechanic job? or a stealership job? Also I went to the parts store and I was told that there are two different belts. What are the two individual belts for?

Have you checked if your belts are tight? Also, I noticed with my belts that when it got cold, and my car iced up, the belts would squeal when i first started it up (i'm guessing the belt was sorta iced up too?). If not, I'd check to make sure they are tight, and if they are cracked, or worn, then I'd replace them.
They are not too difficult to change (as long as you know where the two tensioners are at), but I do have trouble in judging how tight to make them. And the two belts are for the different accessories. One goes to the right side, and the accessories there, the other goes to the other accessories, like the power steering on the left side. That's why the crank pulley looks like it does (stepped), cause it has the two belts on it.

They didn't make a big difference power wise, or at least i couldn't feel it, but that's what everyone says. They are supposed to help with the water pump cativation at high rpms though, so it's worth it to me. The biggest difference is when i turn on the a/c, the car doesn't lag as bad.

They are not too difficult to remove either... the 2 pulley set at least. the 4 set is. the belts can slip off pretty easily, there is enough room in there, or at least i thought so... it's pretty tight, but not too bad. you'll want to jack the front up, and remove the passenger side wheel and splash guard to get access.

I recently replaced the waterpump along with all the belts. I put on some so called Goodyear Gatorback Quiet Belts. It has been doing it's job quite well - keeping itself quiet. But recently, it spueal once things got warm under the hood. I am not positively sure it is the belts but I hope it is. I am afraid that it is my engine bearings that is making noise. Besides the noise my G20 runs good, considering I don't always keep up with the maintainance. I will try to adjust the belts. And do some tune up since it is about time. But I have been told that the Goodyear's thinner belt tends to squeak - one of the belts in our car is relatively thinner than the other. I just wished I had use Gates or OEM belts.

where are the tensioners located?

Just a piece of advice to anyone. Doesn't matter who you are, pro or amature, please read directions before you do anything. Anyway, I had my UR S pulley installed yesterday night(02.08.02 6:00pm). I had mentioned to my mechanic friend(15 yrs. of experience) that the p/s and crank pulley has to be replaced with the UR S pulley's. Well, I read wrong and he assumed that what I told him to remove has to come off. Before he started, I told him about the instructions, he didn't bother looking at it. He removed the crank pulley, belts, and lastly..., the power steering pulley! My friend and his partner where figuring out why the p/s pulley has a gear thing in the middle and the UR doesn't? I started reading the UR instructions and found out that instead of p/s pulley..., the water pump pulley were the one that has to be removed. I told them about it and they were just laughing and said to me that I was killing them. Well, I told them the instructions in the first place, didn't I??? Anyway, so it took longer than we expected. We could have been done less than 2hrs. It would have been probably 1 1/2hrs. if we didn't run in with a little tightness on the center of the water pump pulley. So, my friend had to file the center a little bit. The pulley wont sit right if you don't file the center! It took him at least 20min. figuring out why the pulley won't turn straight. My friend where tightning, untightning the four bolts, then his partner told him to remove it totally. My friends partner compared the stock pulley and the UR's. The UR's center whole were a bit smaller. Gee WhiZ!!! My friend told me..., "so you wanted to do it yourself, huh?" I said, "yeah but for $50 bucks, I'd rather have you do it and no aggravation for me" he he ;) So..., beware! Please read the instructions, have the right tool is very important, and have a little bit confidence on yourself. You could do it! I didn't do it myself because it was cold here in Philly at this time. I don't have a garage to do them. That's why I just paid my friend because he owns a garage with a heater inside of it.

Yeah I did! Just follow your instinct. I'm no pro, just a handy man. I was able to removed and put together the belts that my("mechanic") friend didn't properly installed. Have a confidence on yourself! Take your time browsing around your engine area. Look at how everything is link to each other and you'll find out what you are looking for. When I have time..., I'll take a picture of the P/S and Alternator tensioner and I'll post it here. Maybe before that, someone will be able to help you already. But, I will still post it..., whenever I have the chance ;)

I have a lil' confidence but not too much. That sh!t just looks to tight in there. I guess I'll reavaluate it when I do My EGR re n re today. Cross ur fingers and wish me luck. I cant stand this constant stuttering

If you can do this, you can also change your belts.
