I've gone 115MPH in my 96 on flat land then I hit a hill and it dropped to about 95. My speedo only goes to 90 but when I stopped the speedo was stuck on 25.

Mine'll do 130+. My speedo goes to 85, and my buddy in his 01Neon RT could only keep up till 130, and I pulled on him, so I dunno what it's top speed is. I know a guy in town who has a Chevy 350 in his 98 metro. runs mid 10's in the 1/4 mile.

My friends geo metro is putting 218 hp out of those 3 cylinders!! I really don't know what would be his top speed . I'll ask him on friday.

I don't see a cast iron crank and rods putting up with 218hp/liter. The 3cyl's never had forged internals. I'd have to see some dyno results to believe that one. And he would be running mid 12's to low 13's with that. He might think it's pushing that, when in reality it's maybe 70-80hp. 3yl turbos were 78hp, and had nitride coated pistons to withstand the heat of boost, multi port fuel injection, and a tuned intake manifold. Seeing as a stock 3cyl in a 6 valve motor, single fuel injector, and 54hp. 400% increase in hp without a ton of custom internals and extensive head work is pretty far fetched. Most drag cars can't get a hp/L ratio like that running blowers and nitrous. Fastest geo/swift I know is DMWdave's in out teamswift boards. He runs an 11.42" 1/4 mile, and he's invested about $10k into his 1.3L DOHC motor, 300hp. And it's one of the fastest street legal fwd cars in australia. He is running a stock forged crank that is knife-edged and balanced, custom forged rods, bored and stroked to 1.5L, custom cams, cultus intake manifold, limited slip diff, close ratio gearset, and a ton of other mods. Not to sound like a dick, but your friend is probably one of those people who put a laundary dryer hose on their intake and called it ram-air, and said it gave him 50hp, and put stickers and a big wing on it.

teamswift.net really cool site those little 3 bangers are very intresting motors with the intake and turbo off a sprint i've seen those soda cans on tires get some ungoddly speed you have to think fully assembeld the 2 dr hatch back weighs about 1600 lbs with around 150 hp from the turbo and the head work those cars have a very nice power to weight ratio aside from the 55 hp stock for the LSi version

i made the joke you turn on the a/c and the car starts going backwards

Fastest Metro? That's easy. It's the one with the fastest truck towing it! I've had mine a little over 80 and then the feeling that things were about to come apart got the better of me.
Actually, I think it's a great little car. Best mileage I've ever seen, good reliability, easy to repair, just what I always wanted for a commuter car. Can't be beat! But fast? Not quite a Vette or Porsche. But I didn't buy it to race anyone to the gas station.
I spend about $20 a week on gas versus my friends at $100 a week so they can think they look cool in their 4X4 pickups. But I can afford beer and better food while they eat rice and beans. Depends where your priorities are.
Also, I have money left to fill up the F250 and take the camper out more often. It's nice to get out of town and go up into the Cascades for a few days.
Gotta love that Metro!
