98 contour problems with idlingTE10984 01-19-2004, 07:43 PM My contour died on me while going down the road the other day. And i took it to get a computer on it it said the camshaft position sensor, i changed that. I started the car up and it runs rough idling like it wants to die. I took it for a drive and it only accelerates when i press the gas slow but it still jerks bad. Soon as i come down to a idle it will idle for a minute or so then die on me. I changed the fuel filter and that wasnt a problem neither. Anyone have any ideas? 97Conti\our_SE 01-25-2004, 06:34 PM If.... 1. More than about 50-60K miles, and 2. Gets worse when it is wet out Try spark plug wires. I have similar problem except: 1. Run just fine as soon as pedal is pushed off idle. 2. Stall occasionally at idle My code reader said O2 sensors. I wil change and get back to you. TE10984 01-25-2004, 10:39 PM i havnt figured out what was with mine yet, but i have like 130k on it, i assume i should change the plugs and see if its that. O2 sensor can cause it to idle rough? 97Conti\our_SE 01-26-2004, 07:04 AM If you haven't changed your plugs and plug wires in the entire 130K miles, then I would say that is a good place to start. When I put a Code reader on my car I got 6 codes, 1. Said O2 sensor had "slow response" 2. Catalyst efficiency below specification 3. O2 sensor inicates lean 4. Random/Multiple misfires 5. Fuel trim system lean bank 1 6. Fuel trim system lean bank 2 I am going to try the following in the following order: 1. Injector cleaner for the next few tanks and 2. 2 new O2 sensors then 3. New catalytic (but ths is like $300 for a stainless one from www.batinc.net). TE10984 01-26-2004, 08:59 AM its had a tune up before , but i dont know how long since. Ill check the plugs. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
